SHARING A QUICK UPDATE ON ALL THINGS {CURRENTLY}…
Well my friends, I have to say, we had a pretty busy August around here. If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll already know that we dug up most of our yard a couple of weeks ago and we’ve been slowly putting it all back together ever since.

You may be wondering why someone would choose to dig a 7ft deep trench all across their back yard. Well, it’s a bit of a long story really, but the gist of it is that we’re adding a covered deck to the back of our house. Have you ever read that children’s book, “If you give a Mouse a Cookie“? We’re basically living through the renovation version of that story. It all started when we decided to re-do the siding of our house this Spring. As we worked through all of the design details for the exterior, we realized there were a few projects that needed to happen before we could take on the siding – mainly, building on the covered deck we’d always talked about. But then, before we could cover the underground access to our gas and plumbing with a deck, we needed to run the lines out from under it to the site for the new garage we’ve been planning for next Spring.
And so, we started digging. Frost lines run deep here in Northern Alberta, so the water and sewer had to be 7 ft below ground, but luckily we were able to run the gas and electric just 2 feet below. All that digging sure left us with a mess, but we’re hoping the concrete work for the patio and garage floor will cover most of it back up. But, before we can cover all that mess with concrete, we need to have the footings for the deck drilled (hmmm – I think that’s the proper terminology here). So, it looks like we’ve got just a few last holes to dig and then we’ll be ready to start construction on that covered deck (and maybe start getting our yard put back together!). Fingers crossed we can get through it all before Summer runs out on us!
Things are also moving along in the basement too. The drywall is up and mudding + taping has officially begun! I’ve been working on finalizing all of the design plans and getting materials ordered so that we can continue on with things once we’re done with all this outside work. If you’re curious, you can check out my latest basement update along with the mood board here.
Luckily we didn’t waste the whole month working away on projects. We did manage to sneak away for a week and packed every moment with all the fun and adventure that the mountains have to offer.

With so much in the works at the moment (and school starting up here too!), September is sure to be just as busy around here! But I’m SO excited to see all of this work start coming to life. For now, here’s a quick little update of where we are currently…
CURRENTLY
Reading: After reading (and LOVING) this fun trilogy, I’m excited to dive into his latest! Have you read it?
Writing: Our renovation wish list. There’s still plenty left to do in this old house from the ’70’s.
Watching: I’ve been re-watching one of my all time faves – FRIENDS. I tend to rotate between Friends and The Office when I need a little something in the background that doesn’t take too much focus. Anyone else love re-watching an old, much-loved series? There’s just something so nostalgic and relaxing about it.
Listening to: I can’t get enough of this podcast.
Needing: Some cozy Fall pillows, this shop has so many beautiful options (like this and this)!
Creating: You mean besides a disaster in our backyard? Hopefully a big old covered deck soon!
Planning: Just where we want to put everything on our new deck, so we can make sure we run the gas and electrical to the right spots.
Loving: I know everyone around here is hanging onto the last few days of Summer, but I couldn’t be more excited to see the leaves begin to change last week. I’m ready to welcome in all of the wonderful things that Fall brings.
Wearing: My go-to flats for Fall.
Coveting: I’ve been debating a new dining table for a while now. I really like our current table, but I find myself wishing for something a little warmer and more nostalgic feeling. This one is currently at the top of my list.
Working for me right now: Even with all of the BIG projects we have on the go, I’m finally catching up on some of my blog work. Witch school back in and our schedules looking a little more normal again, I’m really hoping to find a more consistent posting schedule again.
What’s not: Trying to get all the outdoor projects finished up before we run out of Summer!
Anticipating: Digging out my sweaters, scarves and boots! I just LOVE all things Fall!
I’d LOVE to hear where are you currently!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
