Catching you up with all things currently.

How is it October already?! Like, where did September even go?!

Things have been pretty quiet here on the blog lately. The truth is, getting back into the swing of things at school has pretty much dominated the past six weeks around here. The last couple weeks of August were mainly dedicated to getting my classroom all set up for the year ahead – I love to create a space for them that feels calm, cozy and welcoming. By the end of August, I was already welcoming a new group of kiddos into grade four once again. September is always such a whirlwind as we get settled into the new school year. I absolutely love my job, which is precisely why I find it so easy to lose so many hours of my days prepping, planning and just generally doing all the things to make sure my students have everything they need to be successful through the year ahead.

Carson has also been busier than ever as he heads into the new school year as well, so juggling all the things has been a challenge for us all this past month. Here’s hoping we can settle into some more balanced and predictable routines through the month ahead.

Between biking trips, colds & flus making their way through the house, golf tournaments, fixing leaky pipes and travelling for work, Brady has continued to chip away at the deck these past few months. At over 1600 square feet, rebuilding our deck was a massive undertaking for us this summer. After demolishing the old deck, we had 11 new piles driven under it all to shore up the foundation and then Brady added in some new structural beams and repaired any framing that needed shoring up. He’s laid all of the new deck boards across the entire surface and has finished up most of the skirting boards around the sides. This month he’s mainly focused on carving out the timber framing for the gazebo. Not surprisingly, it’s also a big undertaking measuring 12×16 ft. Last weekend, Brady got all of the vertical timbers installed and we’re hoping he can finish installing all of the horizontal timbers through the week ahead. At this point, we’ve resigned ourselves to the fact that the rest of the gazebo construction will likely have to wait for next year as it won’t be long before another snowy winter rolls in, but that’s the nature of taking on a big project like this ourselves, especially while working full time and still making time to enjoy our summer together too.

Brady hasn’t been the only one chipping away at house projects – throughout the summer, I was a cleaning and organizing machine, going through each and every drawer, cupboard and closet to purge the things we no longer needed and organize what was left. I scrubbed every inch of floor, door, wall and trim. I cleaned every light, blanket, pillow and window treatment. I cleaned and organized every drawer, cupboard and closet. I’m not sure our house has ever been this clean and, though it’s already looking very “lived in” again, it was such a great feeling to head into another school year with the house feeling so clean and organized.

With all that cleaning, I didn’t get as many things crossed off of my project list as I’d hoped, but I’m planning to keep plugging along at them through the winter ahead. I did get a few little projects finished up – planning to share a little update here soon. It’s been far too long since I’ve checked in and I can’t wait to share more with you soon! For now, you can read on for a quick little update of where we are currently…

CURRENTLY

Reading:  I’ve been devouring my latest read!

Writing: A to-do list for Fall to help keep me on track.

Needing: I’ve been eying up this slow cooker. Ours is a zillion years old and I think it’s time for an upgrade.

Creating: It feels like all of my creative juices have been going towards my classroom lately, but I’m excited to start dreaming and scheming house projects again now too.

Loving: This cookbook is somehow even better than I’d expected. Not only is it filled with delicious recipes, but it also has beautiful design inspo sprinkled throughout as well!

To Do: I’m working on putting together that list right now.

Wearing: I’ve had this jacket for several years now and it is still my favourite this time of year. It’s SO warm and goes with everything!

On my wish list: I’ve been eying up this gorgeous cabinet for our living room.

Anticipating: Is it weird that I’m already counting down the days until I can decorate for the Christmas season? 😉

I’d LOVE to hear where are you currently! Let me know what’s new and exciting in the comments below.
