Renovation Update | October 2026

It has been far too long since I’ve shared any sort of renovation updates here on the blog (six whole months to be exact). While it hasn’t felt like I’ve had much to share in those six months, looking back, I think we’ve accomplished more than I thought we had. The thing about renovations is that they often feel like they’re moving along a snail’s pace, especially when you’re plugging away at them through two full-time jobs and a whole lot of real life in the middle of it all. But, looking back over time always has a way of truly showing us just how far we’ve come.

It wasn’t long after that last update that I got all of the new doors and trim around our second floor painted in the most perfect warm greige colour. I love the warmth and character it’s brought to our second floor hallway and I’m already making plans to carry it down our staircase now as well.

In that last photo, you can peek through the door to catch a glimpse of our new guest room space as well. This space has been finished for a few months now too, but I’m still just as in love with it now as I was the day we finished it.

And then, as Spring slowly turned into Summer, we took on the massive project of re-building over 1600 square feet of deck. We knew rebuilding our old deck was going to be a major undertaking, but like most projects, I’d definitely underestimated the work that would go into this one. Brady has spent the better part of the Summer tearing apart, reframing, and rebuilding this thing. After demolishing the old deck, we had 11 new piles driven under it all to shore up the foundation and then Brady added in some new structural beams and repaired any framing that needed shoring up. At this point, he’s laid all of the new deck boards across the entire surface and has finished up most of the skirting boards around the sides (he should be all finished up by the time I finish typing this post). He also designed and framed out a 12′ x 16′ gazebo, though it’s looking more like a pergola at this stage. We’ll likely save the roofing portion as well as the built in planters (which are all plumbed into our inground sprinkler system) for next Summer, but we’re SO glad to have that massive deck build (mostly) behind us now.

While Brady was working away outside through the Summer, I took advantage of the time off from school to clean and organize every inch inside of this house. Every cupboard, drawer and closet was emptied, cleaned out and reorganized. Every wall, window, and floor was washed. I purged bin after bin of things we’ve grown out of, reorganized pain points (our stacked pot and pan drawer has driven me nuts for years, but this new cookware set with organizers was such a game changer!) and made too many trips to the thrift store to count. The Monica Gellar in me absolutely loved every minute of it.

I also couldn’t resist updating a few rooms around the house with some new rugs while I was at it.

Next on our list as Brady wraps up the deck build (at least for this year), we’re planning to replace some of our kitchen appliances and tackle a few small projects in our living room. We’ve also been throwing around the idea of maybe starting on the little extra bathroom upstairs (we call it the Pyramid Bath) – I think it makes sense for us to renovate that one next so that Carson will have one of his own to use when we finally get around to his (hopefully on the list for next year!). Or maybe we’ll just settle into the holiday season ahead and save it all for next year! Goodness knows I’ve got plenty of smaller projects around here to keep me busy in the meantime! 😉

Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
