We Sampled 9 Popular Warm White Paint Colours, Here are our Favourites

Picking the right paint colour always feels a bit daunting to me. While choosing the perfect white seems like it should be easy, I often find white the trickiest of all. It can be harder to spot the undertones in lighter colours (if you follow a colour down it’s paint chip card, it’s easier to see the true colours behind those lighter shades). On top of that, because of their high light reflective value (the percentage of light a paint reflects back into the space), white paint can take on a myriad of undertones, even within the same room. When choosing a white paint, I’ve got a few favourites in my back pocket that I always start with, but there are always a few new-to-me colours that I can’t help but consider too.

Cloud White from Benjamin Moore has long been my go-to white paint colour – I love that it feels warm without too much yellow undertone, so it still reads as a warm neutral white. It’s what we used for all of our ceilings and trim work in our old Cedar House as well as our old kitchen cabinets there. We’ve also used it around all of main living spaces in our new/old Tudor, including the kitchen, living room, powder room, laundry + mudroom, front entry, upstairs hallway and study. I tested out several whites around this new/old house when we first moved in, but Cloud White was still my favourite. While I still really love the warmth this beautiful white adds all around our home, I decided I wanted to try something a little different in our new bedroom space.

As we pulled together the design plans for our new bedroom space and ensuite bath, I knew I wanted the walls to be a warm white, but something a little less bright, maybe even with a bit of muted muddiness to it. After searching out and digging into all of the most loved warm white paint colours, I decided to order up samples of some of the most popular colours that kept popping up again and again for me (by the way, here’s my favourite place to buy samples).

First of all, I have to say, I love how convenient and simple these peel & stick samples are to use! I actually just tacked them all up on the wall with sticky tack, making them even easier to move around the space so I can see them in different areas and with different lighting. They’re big enough that I can get a great feel for the true colours and catch all of the different undertones and best of all, I can keep them forever, making it easy and convenient to test out my favourite colours in different spaces for years to come.

Just seeing them all on the wall made it so much easier to compare the different whites.

Here’s how they looked in lower lighting…

Once I got them all up on the wall, it was easy to compare the colours and narrow down my favourites. It didn’t take long before I had these popular white paints narrowed down to just a few favourites…

White Dove | Cloud White | Swiss Coffee

Ultimately, we decided on Swiss Coffee because we loved the depth of colour it brought to the space. It paired beautifully with our ceiling colour, which also happens to be the colour we’re planning to use on the wainscotting in our ensuite as well.

After comparing all of these samples in person, it was easy to feel confident in our colour choices and I couldn’t wait to get our ceiling and walls all painted out.

And let me tell you, I couldn’t be happier with the result! Swiss Coffee turned out to be the perfect warm white for our new bedroom space!

If you find yourself on the hunt for the perfect warm white paint colour, I hope you’ll find this post helpful!

Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
