Custom IKEA Pax Closet Renovation Update
Sharing a quick update of our customized IKEA Pax closet.

While we moved into our new primary bedroom space back in December, our new walk-in closet remained an empty room. We’ve been slowly chipping away this closet space ever since – assembling and installing towers of IKEA Pax cabinets, framing them in to look like built-in cabinets and then trimming them out to complete that custom built-in look. I have to say, it was pretty tempting to just leave the regular old IKEA closet as is, if only for the sake of finally being “done” our new bedroom space, but, despite the many hours of work we added to our plate, I’m SO glad we chose to see this one through. It’s turned out even better than I’d imagined my friends and I cannot wait to share it with you! I am planning to share a full tutorial of all the steps we took to turn those plain old IKEA Pax cabinets into this beautiful custom closet, but for now, I couldn’t wait to give you all a peek at things, but first, let’s take a look back at where we started in here.
Creating our Custom IKEA Pax Closet

We snapped this photo just days after moving in here. This wall separated our primary bedroom from one of the guest bedrooms (Brady’s old childhood bedroom to be exact) and at this point we hadn’t even thought about cutting through it to create a walk-in closet.
Fast forward two years and many, many layout options later and we finally landed on cutting through this wall to create a new closet out of the bedroom on the other side (you can dive deeper into the layout changes in this post if you’re curious). This not only allowed for a bigger walk-in closet for us, but also doubled the space we had to work with for our ensuite bathroom.

Not surprisingly, the view from the other side changed just as much.

We decided to build our closet out of IKEA Pax cabinets not only because they are a great budget friendly option, but I really loved all of the different organization add ons they offered as well. I used their online planning tool to plan out the layout for our drawers and cabinets, ordered them up through click and collect (so convenient) and we quickly got to work assembling and installing them.

We could have left them just like this and boy was it tempting to just move right in and call it done, but I know I would have always wondered how much better we could have made this and so, we journeyed on – framing around the cabinet boxes and then trimming it all out to give it a custom look. Of course, I couldn’t leave those drawers untouched, so we made new custom fronts for them to give them an inset look.

After SO much filling and sanding, I painted it all out in a rich brown colour and added some gorgeous hardware to finish it all off.
Are you ready to see the final result?

With all of the construction finished up, it is finally time to move our furniture, clothes and accessories into this little space (you may have caught that in our Insta Stories this weekend). While we were at it, we got our new mirror and night tables all moved in too. I’ve been waiting months for our new furniture to arrive and I’m so, so happy with the way it’s completed our new bedroom. I cannot wait to share it all with you!

I’ve got so much more to share with you, including final reveals for each of these spaces, not to mention all of the DIY tutorials! But for now, I hope you love this look back at the evolution of this walk-in closet space.

Wishing you such a lovely day my friends!
