Currently | Life in February 2024

Let’s just say that January gave us one heck of a start to our 2024. We rang in the New Year with our family under the most incredible firework display at Disney World and it was such a magical experience and unforgettable trip, I still can’t find the words to express the gratitude I feel at the opportunity we had to create those memories with our family.

Unfortunately, the magic only lasted until we came home – I ended up coming down with Shingles the day after we arrived home (thank goodness it waited until we were home at least!). Honestly, I didn’t know much about Shingles until my symptom-Googling led me there. Turns out it’s pretty painful as it mainly affects your nerves, making everything feel so much more uncomfortable/ painful than you think it should be. For me, it created sharp pains in my side and stomach (my first symptoms), a lot of muscle soreness all along my left side, a painful rash around my torso and the skin all around it was SO sensitive, I could hardly stand to have a shirt touching it, it was the strangest thing! Apparently it stems from the Chicken Pox virus, which lives on in your body forever once you’ve had it, so anyone that was lucky enough to have Chicken Pox as a child is susceptible to Shingles. It was honestly SO much worse than I’d imagined it would be – it’s been about 4 weeks since my first symptoms and I’m only now just starting to feel more myself again.

While I was knocked right out with that virus for much of the month, January wasn’t all bad. Brady braved the extreme cold snap that rolled through in early January (it was -50ยฐC with the wind chill) to bring home our new sofa just in time for me to curl up on it all through my illness (another silver lining). Not only is beautiful, but it’s SO comfortable and cozy! We’re all in love with it!

In addition to that, I managed to get our Ensuite design finalized, Brady worked on our Primary Bedroom, Bathroom, Closet and Carson’s Room (catch up with that here). We made a list of renovation projects we’re hoping to tackle this year and then I made another with smaller projects I can do myself (mostly). Brady taught Carson how to play poker. We travelled to Calgary to surprise our friends for their 40th birthday and the boys did a bit of skiing too. I read/ listened to 10 books (my favourites were this one and this one). We started eating a healthy breakfast (we can’t get enough of this overnight muesli) and I got this treadmill laptop tray to help me sneak in a few more steps while I’m working (currently walking while I type this now!). And of course, there was some work + school, a few piano lessons and a whole lot hockey in there along the way too.

Needless to say, January was a busy one for us.

CURRENTLY

Reading:ย Just started this new book, it has great reviews.

Writing: Currently working on a post with the final design plans for our Ensuite Bathroom. I cannot wait to share it!!!

Needing: Some new runners. Just signed up for two half marathons (the first is in May!), time for some new shoes to mile out.

Creating: Now that I’ve got the design plans finalized for our Ensuite, I’m getting started on planning out our Primary Bedroom. I cannot wait to show you what I’m thinking!

Loving: My new walking desk – I love that it’s clear, it somehow makes walking easier when I can see my feet moving through it and it just rests on top of the bars with no extra clips to worry about.

To Do: Here’s what I’ll be working on around here through the next few months.

Wearing: My fave running pants (LOVE the pockets for my phone).

On my wish list: I’ve been wanting this cookware set for ages now.

Planning: With so many spaces to renovation this year, I’ve got all sorts of design plans in the works. Working on our Primary Bedroom first, then I think I’ll move onto our closet.

Working for me right now:ย I’ve been using this Gratitude Journal on and off for years. I LOVE how quick + easy it is!

Whatโ€™s not:ย I’ve got a long list of things I’d like to tackle before Spring rolls in. I haven’t even thought about starting it yet though. Thinking I might need to just start scheduling some projects into my days – after all some progress is better than none.

Anticipating:ย We’ve set some pretty lofty goals for the year ahead and I cannot wait to see them come to life!

Iโ€™d LOVE to hear where are you currently! Let me know what’s new and exciting in the comments below.

Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
