Oh my goodness, this reno update has been a looooong time coming. I mean, if you really want to get technical about things, we started this project by ripping up the carpet in here within days of moving into this house back in the Fall of 2022. We had no idea yet what we were planning to do with these spaces, but anything was better than that old carpet in the bathroom! Here’s a quick peek back at where we started…
While Brady had the flooring, lighting and walls all ripped out pretty quickly, we didn’t have much of a plan about where to go from there and, without a plan, it was pretty tough to try to move forward in any way really.
This space sat just like this, virtually untouched for nearly a year, while I took my time trying to figure out all the things, from a whole new layout (check that out here), to design directions and finishings (which I’m still working through now). I agonized over every little thing in planning out this space, but, rather than rush things just for the sake of having them done, I decided to give myself the time and space to plan out a primary suite that we would be happy with for years to come. And I’m SO glad I did!
With the help of my talented sister-in-law, we came up with a brilliant new layout – reworking this entire side of the house to give us a bigger ensuite bath, a whole new closet and a nice big bedroom for Carson (complete with his own walk-in closet. If you missed it, you can see our new floor plans here.
While I haven’t put pen to paper so to speak for our bedroom or closet designs yet, I did manage to pull together some design plans for our ensuite that I’m really excited about. I’m still sourcing a lot of the fixtures and finishings and have only just begun to think about our vanity design, but it definitely feels like we’re moving in the right direction with things now at least.
All through November, Brady was hard at work reworking all of the plumbing and electrical for our new bedroom, ensuite and closet. Working around the radiant heat lines in the floor was SUPER tricky and made every little thing take SO much longer than it otherwise would have, but eventually he got all of the plumbing moved around to line up with our new floor plan and wired in all of the electrical for each space, including Carson’s new bedroom (on the other side of our closet) as well.
With all of the electrical and plumbing in place, Brady spent most of December framing out all of the walls for the ensuite, primary bedroom, closet and Carson’s bedroom. Working on four separate rooms at one time hasn’t been easy, but luckily the framing has gone much faster than all the background work that came before it and, while he’s still got a bit more to go (mainly the double doors into the closet and closing in the old attic access in Carson’s new bedroom), these spaces have certainly come such a long in the last couple of months. I can’t wait to show you!
Let’s start with our bedroom, shall we?
Moving onto our ensuite bathroom.
And into what might just be my favourite space of them all, our new walk-in closet. We decided to borrow space from one of the spare rooms (we have two extra bedrooms aside from Carson’s up here) to create a closet on the other side of our bedroom. Here’s what it used to look like.
And here it is now…
This also required closing up the old door to the bedroom from the hallway at the top of our stairs. It’s all framed in now and just needs a bit of drywall. Also planning to move that sconce over a bit so it will be centred in the new wall space. The hallway will be getting new trim, doors and flooring along with everywhere else up here, so nothing else to worry about there (aside from picking it all out of course!).
Finally, Brady’s nearly done with framing out Carson’s new bedroom and walk-in closet, which we created from the space that was left of those two spare rooms (basically, 1.5 bedrooms). He’ll have a nice big bedroom, with a walk in closet and a small nook beside it for a desk and some book shelves. There was a ton of work to be done in here before the framing could happen, removing the old closet of course, but also relocating the attic access that was located within that. Here’s a quick peek at where we started in here…
And here’s how things are looking today – not quite ready for drywall just yet, but almost!
I’m SO proud of the progress that Brady’s been able to make in here these past couple of months, in spite of our crazy busy schedules through hockey season and the holidays! Hopefully he’ll have the last of the framing and electrical finished up in here soon and we’ll be able to move onto drywalling, which always makes the spaces so much easier to visualize.
We’ve still got a long ways to go yet, but we’re definitely moving in the right direction now at least! Hoping I’ll have some design plans to share for our bedroom, closet and C’s bedroom soon! In the mean time, keep an eye on our Insta stories for all sorts of progress updates as we continue our way through this adventure.
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!

Thanks Pam! It’s so exciting to finally see things moving along now that we have a better idea of where we’re going with it all! Definitely eager to see it all come together and finally get properly moved into this old house.
