Our 2024 Project List
Sharing our renovation plans for the year ahead.

The start of a brand new year always has us dreaming up the possibilities of what lies ahead. And, as a big fan of list making, there’s little I love more than writing out all of ideas and goals for the year ahead. Putting pen to paper is my favourite way to wrangle in all those thoughts + ideas swirling around our heads – listing everything out makes it so much easier to see it all in front of us at once, which then allows us to whittle down our list if necessary & prioritize our next steps. It really is the best way to make sure we’re spending our time and money where it matters most through the year ahead.
I love sharing our home goals here on the blog โ itโs not only a fun way to bring you all along for the ride, but itโs also my favourite way to check back in with our progress along the way (catch up with last year’s renovation goals here). Ready to see which projects made the list for 2024? I can’t wait to share them with you!
Our 2024 Renovation List

ONE: Finish the Study.
This space didn’t even register when we were dreaming up our list of renovation plans at the beginning of last year, but somewhere along the way, it dawned on us just how great it would be to have at least one “finished” space in this house. Not only is this Study a space that I spend hours of my day in, but it’s also the space we plan to change the least in this old house (there’s more to the story here, catch up with the why behind it all here). At this point, of all the rooms in this old Tudor, this Study is the closest to being “done”, simply because it’s the room we plan on doing the least amount of work in. Basically, finishing this space would feel like an easy win (as easy as renovating can ever really feel I guess) and, after feeling so paralyzed by indecision in all of our other renovation projects we’d planned for the year, we really needed an easy win.
We’ve already re-re-painted the Study (long story), swapped out the cabinet hardware and changed out the lighting. We ordered up new carpet, window treatments (which we plan to install once the new carpet is in), fireplace tile (next on our list) and furniture. This Study is going to be a vibe and I cannot wait to see our plans for this space come to life!

TWO: Flooring on the stairs.
These stairs have been the bane of my existence since moving into this house. They are ugly, uncomfortable to walk down (thanks to the endcaps that dig into your feet and the rock clad risers that scrape your heels and toes), and unsafe (I’ve always been leery of a slippery surface on stairs, even more on this spiral staircase). We’ll be installing new carpet on these, including the stairs to the basement as well, at the same time as the new carpet in the Study.

THREE: Finish our Primary Bedroom.
We haven’t spent a single night in this space since moving into this new/old house of ours in the Fall of 2022. Here’s hoping we’ll be sleeping in here by the end of 2024! #fingerscrossed

FOUR: Finish our Ensuite Bathroom.
Reworking this space has been SUCH a huge undertaking, but I know it will be so worth it in the end. We’ve got some big plans for this ensuite bath and I cannot wait to bring them to life through the year ahead!

FIVE: Build out our Primary Closet.
In redesigning our primary suite, we decided to totally relocate the closet space. Moving it from inside the old ensuite not only doubled the size of our bathroom, but it gave us even more space to create what I’m sure will be the walk-in closet of my dreams. While I don’t exactly have a design planned out for this space yet, we do at least have a general layout in mind. I can’t wait to share more about this space soon!

SIX: Create a new Bedroom for Carson.
Carson has been dreaming and scheming up ideas for this space since moving into this new/old house of ours. He’d really love to create a built in bed (with a slide out trundle for sleepovers), a super cool desk nook and best of all, a secret door into his very own walk-in closet. While we haven’t landed on the practicality of actually making all of these grand dreams come to life, I love seeing him so excited about his new bedroom and I’m really looking forward to planning out this space with him!

SEVEN: New flooring throughout our second floor.
Aside from the bathrooms, our entire second floor is covered in carpet. While it’s still super soft and the quality is incredible, it’s 35 years old at this point and has definitely seen better days. While we install new flooring in our Primary Bedroom, Closet and Carson’s Bedroom, we’ll continue on through the entire second floor. I’m thinking engineered hardwood throughout all of these spaces, but Brady’s still voting for carpet in the bedrooms so, while new flooring for the second floor is definitely on the priority list this year, the jury’s still out on exactly what that flooring will be.

EIGHT: The Pyramid Room Bath
I’d say this is more of a wish-list item. If we have the time and energy for it after making it through everything else on this list, we’d love to start working on renovating this bathroom next to the Pyramid Room (our bonus room over the garage). It would be nice to give Carson a newly renovated bathroom to use, especially once we start working on that Red Bathroom next year. Obviously, we’ll have to wait and see whether we’re actually able to get around to this one.
That’s quite a list for one short year and pretty darn similar to last year’s. Let’s hope we have more luck making it through it all the second time around. Ha!
On top of all this, I’ve got plenty of smaller projects that I’d love to sneak in along the way. Planning to dive deeper into that list with you all here on the blog next week.
Wishing you all SUCH a lovely day!

Wow, you are going to be busy! Can’t wait to see what you have in mind, its always to exciting to watch the projects to completion. Have a great weekend skiing!!!
We sure are! So much to look forward to! ๐
