SHARING A QUICK UPDATE ON ALL THINGS CURRENTLY…
Happy April! How was your Easter? Ours was pretty quiet around here – with our province still under lock-down restrictions, we weren’t able to enjoy our usual Easter dinner with all of our extended family, but we did manage to sneak in a few outdoor visits with some smaller groups. Luckily, the Easter Bunny was still able to make his rounds at least!
Like most of our Winter, March felt pretty busy around here between work & school through the week and trips to Jasper every weekend for Carson’s ski team. The boys have been loving their ski days in the mountains so much though, that they’ve actually signed on for four extra weeks, which means our April will likely feel just as busy, but in the best way. All that travel hasn’t left much time for tackling projects around the house this Winter, but after such a busy Summer and Fall last year, I think we have all enjoyed the break.
Though things have been pretty quiet here on the blog this past month, we’ve actually been working hard on a ton of plans behind the scenes. With the warm weather rolling in, we’ve put most of our indoor projects on hold in favour of finally getting going with some of our outdoor projects instead – finishing up a few from last year like the shingles on the hot tub shelter Brady built late last Fall and finishing up the base of our new deck (though we likely won’t get around to building the roof for it until next year). Probably our biggest project this Summer will be getting started with our new garage build out back – Brady’s been dreaming and scheming up all sorts of ideas for this new garage space and honestly, I’m just looking forward to covering up the big mud pit we created when we ran all of the utilities out the the build site.
I’ve also been gearing up for our garden season this past month too. I ordered up a composter that came highly recommended by a friend that I hope will really help to make the soil more nutrient dense. I’ve also got a few seeds started under some new grow lights this year too – I’ve always purchased our plants from our local greenhouse, but I’m excited to give starting them myself a try this year! I’m sure I’ve made a million mistakes already, but so far, they seem to be doing okay. I’m really hoping to make the most of our new enclosed garden space (find the tutorial here) and of course, squeeze as much as I can out of our short growing season around here.
This month, I’m planning to work on a few changes around our main living spaces. You may remember this chat about how my style is evolving and I think I’ve come up with a few simple ways to start working the modern cottage style into our home. I’ve got a ton of ideas that I can’t wait to share!
In the mean time, here’s a quick little update of where we are currently…
Writing: A list of changes I’d love to make around our main living spaces (I’ll be sharing them all soon!).
Watching: Do you remember that old show Home Improvement with Tim Allen? Well, somehow it came up in conversation a few weeks ago and Brady and I decided we needed to rewatch this old gem from our childhood with Carson. Every night after dinner, we’ve been curling up in the basement together to watch an episode or two and I have to say, it’s every bit as awesome as we remembered.
Needing: Some itty-bitty curtain rings for this itty-bitty curtain rod. If you see some, please send a link my way!!!
Creating: Carson and I have been dreaming up some landscape designs for our yard spaces. With a garage build in the plans for this Summer, any real landscaping will have to wait for now, but it was fun sketching up some ideas with Carson.
Planning: Aside from C’s new bedroom, I’ve got a few more little house updates in the works at the moment too. Nothing too major, but just a few little changes that I’ve been meaning to tackle for ages now. Can’t wait to share more.
Loving: Getting my butt back to the gym after far too many years away (yes, I said YEARS!). For the last few weeks I’ve been doing 30 minute boot-camp style workouts and even though I feel like I might just die through every single minute of them, I sure feel like a million bucks when I’m done!
Wearing: Now that the snow has all melted away (well almost anyway), I am SO excited to finally dig out my favourite little flats again!
On my wish list: Don’t you think this rug would look so amazing in our bedroom?!
Working for me right now: This amazing Spring weather we’ve been having!
What’s not: Spring cleaning. I want to scrub my entire house from top to bottom, inside and out, but I just can’t seem to find the time. Anyone else?
Anticipating: Summer! Mountain biking, garage building, gardening, curling up on the porch with a book. It’s going to be amazing!
I’d LOVE to hear where are you currently! Let me know what’s new and exciting in the comments below.
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
