Primary Suite Renovation Update – We Have Wallpaper

The last time we checked in with our primary suite renovation was all the way back in May and, despite a bit of a slow down through Summer here, we’ve still managed to make a ton of progress in the two months since. With most of the foundational work behind us (plumbing, electrical, drywall, etc), we’re finally at the exciting part of our renovation – you know, the part where actually start to see your progress. I can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to, but first, here’s a quick reminder of our design plans for each of the spaces:

And now, let me tell you about all of progress since our last update.
Primary Bedroom
Back in May, we had just finished hanging all of the drywall in our primary bedroom. We hired out the mudding and taping and our drywallers did a fantastic job (they always do)! In less than a week, they had our bedroom, bathroom, closet and Carson’s room all finished up and ready for paint. The day after they finished, I was in here painting – mostly, I just couldn’t wait to see that arch all painted out! After humming and hawing over paint colours (check out my favourite white paints here), I think we stumbled upon the perfect colours (bedroom walls – Swiss Coffee, ceilings – Natural Cream). Up next in here, we’ll be adding in a chair rail and some box moulding – can’t wait!

Walk-in Closet
You may remember, we created this closet by breaking into the bedroom on the other side of this wall (read more about that here). Not only did we get the drywall all finished up in, but I painted out the ceiling and most exciting of all, I wallpapered the walls. While I’d experimented with peel and stick wallpaper, I’d never tried installing proper wallpaper with glue, which felt much more intimidating to me. Well, I’m happy to report, I actually found glue the wall wallpaper SO much easier to install than peel and stick. It was still pretty tricky, mainly because I had tricky walls to work with (that window recess was definitely challenging), but after watching hours of YouTube tutorials, I felt ready to take it on. While that window recess took me the better part of a day, the straight walls were surprisingly easy and the more I got up, the more I fell in love with the results. I’ve dreamed of this wallpaper since first laying eyes on it more than two years ago (it was the first thing I had picked out for our primary suite) and somehow, it’s even better than I’d imagined. Seeing this wallpaper up has me even more excited to watch the rest of these spaces come together!

Primary Ensuite
Our ensuite bathroom also had the drywall finished up and painted since our last update. On top of that, Brady just finished up waterproofing the shower this past weekend while I wallpapered our little water closet. If I thought that window wall in our closet was tricky, this little space with it’s sloped ceiling and angles everywhere really gave me a run for my money, but, I have to say, that just made me feel even more proud of the results. Next up in here will be tiling the shower and floors and then we’ll work on getting the shiplap up so we can get our vanity installed. Tiling that shower is going to be a beast of a job – we’ll both be so happy to have that behind us.

At this point, I think we’ve still got the most work left in the bathroom – I have no doubt that all that tiling will take us a while. But, it sure has come a along way in the last couple of months. That wall paper in the water closet is already my very favourite part!

The rest of our second floor renos are moving along a little more slowly, mainly because I’m giving myself the space to really nail down the design plans for Carson’s new bedroom. The drywall is done in C’s room and I’ve primed the walls and painted the ceiling, but I haven’t made it much further. Until we have the wall colour(s) figured out (which will be entirely dependant on the wallpaper we go with – check out our favourite options here), I’m sort of at a stand still in there. We did manage to get that old extra door all closed up and paint at least.

It’s so easy to get caught up in all of the things we still have left to do in these spaces, but taking a pause to look back at how far we’ve come always gives me the energy to keep on pushing through to that finish line. Here’s hoping we’ve got loads more progress to share soon.
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!
