Second Floor Renovation Progress

It’s been far too long since I’ve shared any sort of proper renovation update – our last one was all the way back in January and things have changed an awful lot in the four months since. I cannot wait to share our progress with you!

It took us more than a year to figure out exactly what we wanted to do in here, but once we finally managed to nail down a plan for these spaces, things started moving along much more quickly! After planning out a whole new layout for these rooms (read more about that here if you missed it), Brady got to work moving all of the plumbing and electrical, while I worked on creating some design plans for all of these rooms – you can find them linked up below if you’re curious.

While I’ve only officially landed on final designs for our bedroom and bath, I have started putting together some ideas for our closet. Once we finalize our closet design, I’ll start working with Carson to create a plan for his bedroom and closet too.

Last we chatted, Brady was still working on finishing up the framing in all four of these rooms. It’s taken a few months, but this past weekend Brady officially finished putting up the last piece of drywall and we are officially ready for mudding and taping – we’re planning to hire this out, so this next step should move much faster hopefully. Once that’s done, I think the plan is to move on to waterproofing the shower and then we’ll tackle all of the tile in the bathroom. I’m also eager to get all of the trim work up so that I can start painting, which might make more sense to do before the tile floors go in, so maybe that’ll be up next for us. Stay tuned for next steps I guess.

For now, here’s a quick peek at where we’re sitting with things currently…

I can’t believe the difference it’s made to see the walls up around these spaces – they feel like proper rooms now! I think my favourite part are the arches that Brady made in our bedroom and bathroom – I’m SO proud of how he was able to bring my vision to life!

We’ve still got a long ways to go yet, but we’re definitely making some progress around here! The more we do, the more excited I get to see these spaces come together! Hoping I’ll have some design plans to share for our closet and C’s bedroom soon!
