Primary Bedroom + Ensuite Renovation Update

It’s been six weeks since I last shared a proper renovation update here on the blog (though I’ve shared lots of photos along the way over on Instagram). Six weeks ago, these spaces still felt like a construction zone – we were still in the midst of tiling the shower, our vanity didn’t yet have a countertop installed and there were no doors or trim in sight. While it often feels like progress is so slow as we’re working our way through the ever-growing to-do list, looking back at how far we’ve come always helps to put things into perspective. As I look back at how these views have changed in the past six weeks, it really does feel like we’ve come so far! I can’t wait to share our progress with you today!

In the 6 weeks since our last reno update, we’ve managed to finish up the last of the tiling, which turned out to be a far bigger job than we’d anticipated, so that was huge to have behind us. We also got the shiplap installed around our ensuite and some box trim around our bedroom. While I’ve already gotten the shiplap painted, I still need to paint out the box trim in our bedroom (caulking and filling all that trim took ages!). Brady also installed all of the doors throughout the space as well as all of the door and window trim (though that all still needs to be painted too).

This door to our water closet was definitely tricky, but I really love the quirky character it adds. I am SO in love with the hardware we chose – I cannot wait to see that gorgeous unlacquered brass patina over time.

Brady still has two final boxes of trim to install to the right of our closet – we ran out of trim, but he managed to grab some in the city yesterday, so that should be finished up here soon. Next on the list will be installing our hardwood floors and baseboards, then I’ll be able to finish up the last of the painting and Brady can finally get the lighting installed (which I’m SO excited to see!). We’ve also still got all of the plumbing fixtures to install in the bathroom and of course, a whole closet to built out yet too. There’s definitely a ways to go yet until we can officially call these spaces done, but it’s SO exciting to see that finish line growing closer each and every day now!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!

It’s always fascinating when someone has similar tastes and I admired photo after photo of what you have done. We are at a much different phase of life, selling our big family home and downsizing to a lovely penthouse apartment overlooking Vancouver harbour. With soaring 13′ arched windows and much smaller functional spaces – there are many challenges and choices….perhaps French Bistro/modern French? In any case, I appreciate your taste and your Canadian suppliers as well! Look forward to future issues and updates.
Oh, a view of the Vancouver harbour sounds absolutely dreamy! Here’s to new adventures! Thank you so much for taking the time to share such kind words Bev!
