It’s a beautiful day for a room reveal, don’t ya think?
Six very short weeks ago we signed on to take part in the One Room Challenge, pledging to makeover one room in our home in just, you guessed it, six weeks. Let me tell you, with an entire house in need of a major overhaul, we had no shortage of rooms to choose from. There have been talks about making over our kitchen or our guest bathroom next, but honestly, I had my heart set on creating a lovely, relaxing, farmhouse style master bedroom right from the start.
So, with visions of wood, lace, and all things rustic & neutral, we got to work planning out our Farmhouse Style Master Bedroom.
I wish I could plead ignorance about the mess I’d signed us up for, but since we actually took part for the first time last Spring, creating a rustic, cabin themed bedroom for our not-so-little guy, I knew exactly what I was getting myself (and everyone around me) into. Truth is, it’s six weeks of chaos, stress and never, ever sitting down. You’re head just overflows with ideas and spins with the stress of trying to make them all happen within that tight deadline. You wonder a million times over why you ever thought making over an entire room in just six weeks was a good idea.
And then suddenly, six weeks have passed, you look over at your finished space and realize it was all worth it.
This beautiful new space was worth every long day’s work, every minute we spent carefully planning, every project that took ten times longer than it should have, every doubt we had about whether we’d just wasted the last 20 hours on an absolute disaster, every late night, every hour we spent looking for the PERFECT curtain rod or bed frame …
Every single, stressful thing brought us to this moment. And, it turns out it was ALL worth it! (Thank goodness!!!)
This One Room Challenge may have only been six weeks long, but my friends, I’ve been waiting ages for this gorgeous master bedroom reveal …
This makeover was no small feat, we changed every single surface in this room (aside from those beautiful hardwood floors) and did it all within that tight six week timeline.
A fresh coat of white paint over EVERYTHING really brightened things up and the new farmhouse style trim totally transformed the look of the entire room.
Even with it’s muted colours, this stencilled wall adds a ton of visual interest to the space (will definitely be sharing a tutorial for it soon!).
This gorgeous farmhouse style chandelier couldn’t have fit our design or space more perfectly …
Our antique dresser got a much needed update …
And of course, so did the matching bedside tables …
And really, what bedroom would be complete without the most luxurious and cozy bed?
This bedding is positively heavenly! It’s SO soft and the lovely frills fit our farmhouse style perfectly!
I looked everywhere, but couldn’t find a set of curtains that matched the simple style I had been picturing in my head, so I made them instead. I found the most perfect linen to make them with & even lined them with a fabric blacks out our room, but adds a bit of weight and drape to the curtains. I also couldn’t resist adding a bit of lace with some simple sheers in behind.
We’ve got a pair of vintage chairs that used to belong to Brady’s grandparents – we had them recovered a few years ago and they’ve been my very favourite ever since.
I’ve always wanted a fireplace in our bedroom, so you can imagine how excited I was when hubs helped me make this …
Doesn’t it look so pretty styled with all sorts of lovely farmhouse treasures (check out my fireplace styling tips here)?
We also made this pretty DIY Trumeau Mirror (though that was a few months ago, thank goodness!) …
And it’s no surprise that I fell head-over-heels in love with this lovely round jute rug …
I absolutely adore every part of this space, but I think my absolute favourite parts of our new master bedroom would have to be our beautiful vintage closet doors …
Complete with vintage hardware …
And our incredible rustic planked ceiling, which took us weeks to figure out – and a VERY LONG weekend to put up and paint – (can’t wait to share that tutorial soon!) …
Our tight timeline obviously posed more than it’s fair share of challenges, but somehow, everything came together beautifully! We’re still waiting on our black double curtain rod, which will draw a bit more attention to our lovely curtains and farmhouse trim I think. And unfortunately, our new doorknobs are stuck at the border still waiting to clear customs. The matte black colour and vintage style are going to make SUCH a difference to the look of our space (goodbye copper and silver knobs older than I am!), so I’ll be sure to share pictures on Instagram once they arrive!
Honestly friends, I’m still in awe at everything we were able to accomplish! I owe a huge thanks to my family and friends for helping out with projects and looking after out little guy while we worked our way through the longest to-do list ever!
With so many moments of doubt through this makeover, I cannot believe we pulled this thing off. These last six weeks may have been some of the most stressful of my life, but my friends, I couldn’t possibly be more in love with how it all came together!!!
Now that you’ve seen our new master bedroom, I bet you are dying to know how we put it all together! We planned it all with the help of the most amazing site – Itsums. Seriously, I can’t help but shout from the rooftops how much I loved using it! Not only is it a brilliant place to keep track of each element and idea along the way, but it’s also got the most handy budget tracker because, well let’s face it, our budget wasn’t exactly limitless. I simply set my budget and Itsums did the rest, keeping track of how much my (crazy long) list of items would cost and automatically tracking the money spent as I marked each item as “purchased”. It even let me “hide” items from my budget that I wasn’t quite sure about or that were sponsored by companies, giving me a true and real picture of exactly what this room was costing us. I’m telling you, it really is the most BRILLIANT way to plan & shop for anything! We definitely plan on putting it to work as we make our way through the rest of the house.

I also want to give one last shout out to the wonderful companies that helped me create the farmhouse style master bedroom of my dreams!
