Welcome back to week two of the {One Room Challenge} my friends!
You may remember our commitment to join this little thing called the One Room Challenge last week. I’ll tell you, I haven’t forgotten, not even for a second! We’ve been SO hard at work painting, staining, painting some more, nailing together zillions of boards and of course, you guessed it … painting. The room is has become a floating bed in a sea of unfinished projects.
Buuuuut, we are making progress! And just two weeks into this crazy challenge, I’m feeling pretty darn good about what we’ve been able to accomplish. Here’s a quick rundown:
We’ve painted EVERYTHING! The walls, the baseboards, and the doors have been totally and completely covered in two coats of paint. Not the same paint mind you.
As I mentioned in last week’s design plan, the baseboards were transformed from the whitest of whites to the soft creamy white of Benjamin Moore’s Paper Mache. And the walls … oh the walls! I don’t think I’ve ever found a more perfect gray than Gray Owl by Benjamin Moore. In fact, we’re thinking it would look mighty fine in a few other rooms in our home now too (but let’s just table that for now, shall we?).
I also managed to get the inside of this DIY Crate Table changed up from green to, you guessed it, green. Perhaps I should clarify – though the Annie Sloan green I had originally used was pretty, it just didn’t have that rustic look I was craving. Enter Rustic Charm from Country Chic Paint, which is every bit as charming as the name would suggest!
I’ve gotta say, there’s not much in this world that I hate more than painting, so I’m pretty darn happy to have most of that behind us!!!
We’ve also tackled a few DIY projects and may just have even made it through a bit of staining too. Though, with all the wood we’ve been lugging into the house, there’s sure to be a ton more staining coming our way.
With our new IKEA blind hung, we got right to work making a rustic valance to cover the not-so-pretty hardware. More on that next week hopefully, but for now, here’s a little sneak peek …
Brady made it through about half of our plank wall last weekend before coming down with the flu. Boo. I suppose there’s never a great time to get sick though and at least he’s feeling better now.
Considering we had a toddler with the flu, a crazy busy Easter weekend and a husband stricken down by that awful flu too (which was almost as bad as the toddler), I’ve gotta say that I’m really proud of the progress we’ve made so far!
– paint walls with Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl
– replace closet doors
– paint doors trim work with Benjamin Moore’s Paper Mache

So, what’s up next? Oh, probably a bit more hammering, a LOT of staining and maybe even installing this awesome new light fixture!!!
And most definitely a ton of shopping! Check out my Itsums board to see where I’m shopping and how I’m managing to stay on budget.
I cannot believe we’re already two weeks into our six week makeover! I’m really excited to be another week closer to our Rustic Big Boy Bedroom!
Below, you can find links to all of the DIY projects made for this Rustic Boy’s Bedroom as well as a source list. I’ll be sure to update this list as new tutorials are posted:

This is looking so lovely already! That plank wall is dreamy, and I love that light fixture. Also… that really is the most perfect grey!
Awwww, thanks SO much Thalita! It’s certainly coming along … if only I could snap my fingers and have it all done 😉
Way to go Kristi! It’s coming along! Sorry your husband caught the flu (the kids and mine caught it too so I was flying solo). I love the plank wall and that light is gorgeous! xo
Oh no! SUCH a bummer over Spring Break 🙁 Here’s to a healthy and productive week for us all! xo
Wow! I love that soft gray. The plank wall is looking good. Can’t wait to see that window treatment. And you know I am smitten with that light fixture. But oh so very sorry you have one sick husband and one sick baby. That is just no fun! Hope everybody is feeling better now.
Awwww, thank you SO very much Peggy! Everyone seems to be better now, thank goodness! Definitely excited to see some progress! Hoping we can continue knocking things off that crazy long list now!
Hope you’re all feeling better now. Loving those rustic wood elements so far! Rustic Charm is a beautiful color. I’ve used it a few times and it looks even more awesome with dark wax. Just say’n!
Hmmmmm, now the wheels are turning Marie! And thank you, we’re all feeling MUCH better!!!
Wow! You’re almost halfway done with your checklist! Good job! The colors look great too!
Thanks SO much, but I’m definitely feeling the time crunch with what’s left!
I hope the family is feeling better, I just got over that nasty bug this week and it was not fun. The progress in the room is looking so good Kristi, I love the rustic charm and that moose head!!! Looking forward to more updates! 🙂
Thank you so much Jillian! Everyone is on the mend – happy to hear you are too! Here’s hoping we can have an even more productive Week Three!
It’s coming along so great! I cannot WAIT to see that plank wall 🙂 Hope the Carson and the hubs are feeling better. XO
Thanks Bre! Everyone’s feeling healthy and so far this Mama has somehow avoided it too! Here’s hoping Week Three is even more productive!
Wow.. you make my progress look like lazy work! Fantastic work!
Awwww, thank you! Definitely feeling overwhelmed with all that’s left still … here’s hoping we have an even more productive Week Three!
Your wall looks so great! I’m hoping to start mine this weekend…
Thanks SO much Katy! Here’s hoping yours goes a bit faster than ours seems to be!!!
Wow, you guys are busy!! It’s going to be amazing!!
Thanks Ashley! Feels great to see some progress happening for sure!!!
Wow! You have gotten SO much done. I’m impressed! Gray Owl by BM must be popular because I feel like I’ve seen it in a couple places. Must be a good one. Excited to see more!
Thanks Erin! And yes, Gray Owl has got to be THE MOST perfect gray!
What a relief to be done painting! I’ve heard great things about BM Grey Owl so I can’t wait to see the big picture with it.
Thanks SO much Melissa!!! I’m head-over-heels in love with the new colour! Can’t wait to share more next week!!!
Looks good so far! When I redid my daughter’s room, it took a lot longer than 1 month! Just finding a free weekend took several weeks, so kudos to you! It sure is fun seeing it all come together though! If you would like to take a look at my daughter’s room, I would love to have you visit! I am visiting from Show & Tell Friday today.
Awwww, thanks Pamela! I know just what you mean – if I hadn’t joined this challenge, we’d still be in the planning phase for another year I’m sure! Will definitely pop over to check it out!
Ooooh, great progress Kristi- that plank wall is going to look amazing, and the gray owl is perfect. I just helped my friend pick out that exact colour for his house and it looks amazing!!
Thanks Krista! I cannot believe how much I love the colour … that never happens! Here’s hoping we have an even more productive Week Three now!!!
I’m already jealous of this room and you’ve gotten so much accomplished already! I need to pop out a kiddo so I can copycat your inspiration board, haha.
Hahahaha! Get on it then Katie! 😉 Thanks girl!
Oh boy that sounds like quite the week! Hopefully everyone is feeling better now, and y’all are all back to work. The progress already made looks AMAZING, and I really can’t wait to see it all done. Oh, and that light fixture!!!!
Thank you SO much!!! We’re all feeling so much better! Here’s hoping we have an even more productive Week Three!!!
Wow! You’ve made a lot of progress so far! I love the new paint color. I’ve been thinking of using Gray Owl in our master bedroom. Glad to hear you like it so much! Can’t wait to see your progress next week!
Thanks so much Sam! It really is THE MOST perfect gray!!! We’re planning on using it again in our master bedroom and bath now too!
For me, painting is my LEAST favorite step of the ORC! But it is the step that always makes the most difference! Loving your plan, and that wall looks like it will be terrific! Can’t wait to see more!
Thanks SO much Kristen! You’re right, SUCH a difference! Here’s hoping we see an even more productive Week Three!
Love this! It looks incredible and the gray is so soothing and fresh. We’ve been talking about updating the room our two older boys share and possibly moving our third son in there too because Jack currently shares a room with our foster daughter, but he really wants to be with the boys- thanks for the inspiration! I can’t wait to see the rest of your project and I’m totally impressed by how much you have gotten done in such a short time!
-Sara
Thanks SO much Sara! I think a room of three boys sounds like a ton of fun, can’t blame Mr. Jack for wanting in on that! Having come down with the flu myself, our Week Three hasn’t been nearly as productive as last week, but here’s hoping that we’ve given ourselves enough of a head start to make it through these six weeks now! Thanks again Sara!
Love the planking on the wall and your inspiration board. Can’t wait to see more. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.
Thanks so much Marty!!! We finally finished up that wall this weekend, though we’re still waiting on the stain! Definitely excited to see how it all comes together!
Ooh, I LOVE how it is coming together! That color scheme is just so perfect. And I’m jelly of your plank wall – it looks like it’s going to be AWESOME. Carson is a lucky boy!
Awwww, thanks friend! We finally finished up the plank wall this weekend and I’m absolutely in LOVE! Can’t wait to see how the rest comes together!
Re-doing a room is a big undertaking Thanks for sharing the “perfect gray paint color” I am looking for just the right one
Thanks Mary! It really is SUCH a huge job – what was I thinking committing to getting it all done in just six weeks?! 😉 It really is my fave gray ever! Thanks again!
Looks so great so far!! Loving that rustic wooden valance, too. Hope your boys are feeling better, it sucks getting the flu!!
Thanks Amanda! Everyone is on the mend (I’m just getting over my turn with it too) finally! Hoping we can tackle a few projects yet this week!
Love the plank wall!! We are going to attempt it.
Thank you Lara! I’m absolutely in love with the plank wall and I’m sure you’ll love yours too!!!
I can’t wait to see your finished room! It looks like it’s going to look great.
Thanks SO much Erlene! Here’s hoping it all comes together as planned!!!
