Been a while, right?! In fact, it’s been SOOOOOO long since I’ve taken part, you may have forgotten all about our #MonthlyDIYChallenge!
In the past we’ve transformed a simple wood crate, crafted with wood slices and of course, had a little Christmasy fun with some plain glass ornaments. Though the challenge has continued without me on the second Wednesday of each month, I’ve come up with plenty of excuses not to participate. Honestly, between our three-month-long move and returning back to teaching a few days a week, I’ve had such a hard time getting my bloggy act together. It’s about time I jumped back on the #MonthlyDIYChallenge wagon!
I’m crazy excited to be teaming up with my best bloggy friends to bring you a ton of crafty inspiration with this month’s challenge!
Having committed to making over one room in our home in just six weeks with the One Room Challenge, my head has been spinning with everything I’ve got to get done. So, if I wanted to participate this month (and you know, maintain some sanity cause, let’s face it, most of that’s now gone out the window!), I would need to find something pretty quick and easy to create for this month’s Dollar Store Challenge. Luckily, it didn’t take me long to come up with an idea after finding some fun Frosted Glass Spray during my latest trip to the hardware store (which is pretty much where I’ve been living these last few weeks). Seriously, isn’t this stuff brilliant?!
I wandered around the dollar store for ages looking for the perfect something to “frost” and these little glass vases practically jumped off the shelves! I’ve been hunting for these very vases forever and, though I’ve come across more than a few in my travels, they’ve all been far too expensive for me to justify. Buuuut, at just $1.50 each, how could I go wrong with these?! Obviously, a few other bargain shoppers had discovered this awesome dollar store score too because there were just two left sitting waaaaay up on the very top shelf. Of course! Keeping in mind that I’m just 4′ 11 3/4″, you can understand why I don’t usually get along well with things on the top shelf! These perfect glass vases were just too good to pass up so, with a bit of creativity (and perhaps a bit of climbing), I scooped up these last two vases before anyone else could steal them out from under over me!
Now my friends, prepare to have your minds blown. I swear, you’re not going to believe how simple these pretty little vases were to make! I mean it … just two quick steps and you’re done!!!
One. Randomly wrap this ultra skinny 0.25″ Painter’s Tape around your vase. Aside from making sure my lines started and ended either at the top or bottom (meaning I didn’t start or end any right in the middle of my vase), there wasn’t much rhyme or reason to where I placed my tape.
Two. Turn your vase upside down and spray 3 thin coats of this Frosted Glass Spray, taking care to follow the directions on the bottle. Then, let it dry.
That’s it! Can you believe it?! I’m so, so happy with how these vases turned out! And all for less than $12 and just a few minutes of my time!!!
I can think of a zillion ways I’ll be able to put these little vases to work, but for now they’re just the perfect way to add a touch of Spring to our home with some pretty flowers while we wait for the last of the snow to melt!
Even with more than a year of blogging under my belt, I am continually blown away by the creativity that surrounds me! It never ceases to amaze me that so many of us can start from the same place, with the same product or the same inspiration, but end up with something SO completely different. Not only am I excited to share what I created for today’s challenge, but I’m absolutely dying to see what these other creative and talented ladies came up with too!!!
Be sure to check back tomorrow to catch up with the latest in our One Room Challenge!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!

Hey Kristi, Its great idea to make this and store vases. Looking so pretty and wonderful, thanks for sharing it with us.
Thank you SO much!
I created this little project though I think I sprayed 3 times, I like the more see through effect. Next time I will spray twice. I need to buy the flowers and then if I can post a picture of the finished project, I will do so. This was the easiest thing ever and so economical! Thank you so much Kristi for such great ideas!
Awesome Carmen! Would LOOOOOVE to see how it turned out! Thank you so much!
I was hoping to post a picture of my vase but don’t think it possible. There isn’t a place to upload, but in either case it came out pretty darn cool!
Thanks
