Sharing some of the traditional exterior light options that we’re considering for our Tudor style home.

Last week, I shared a list of the projects that we are hoping to tackle around the house this Summer. Given how short our Summers are here in northern Alberta, I’d say it’s an ambitious list, but we’ve already got a pretty good start on things. While Brady’s been working hard to get our in-ground sprinkler system up and running, I’ve been chipping away at a few other projects from the list. I’ve got some paint projects in the works that I cannot wait to share, but first, I wanted to share a peek into my journey to find the perfect exterior lights for this new/old Tudor house.

As you can see, our current lights have seen better days. Not only are they in rough shape, but because the brass blends in so easily with the light stucco, you can hardly even notice them from the street. While that’s probably a good thing at the moment considering the shape they’re in, I really do think it’s a missed opportunity to bring some contrast and added character to our exterior.
We’ve got six lights to replace out front (4 on that garage and 2 beside our front door), as well as four more out back (garage, mudroom door and one on either side of the dining room doors) – that’s 10 lights total in case you lost count. 10. That’s a lot of lights to replace. They all don’t have to match necessarily (in fact, I’d like to mix and match a couple of styles), but with so many lights to replace, I’ll definitely have to keep the cost of each light in mind while I’m shopping.
I’ve been hunting high and low for months now, searching for the perfect exterior lights – ones that have charm and presence, with a black finish that will not only stand out more against our home, but will be easy to mix and match between lighting collections. Today, I thought I’d share some of our favourite exterior lighting options so far, including the front runners that I’m considering for our new/old Tudor. If you find yourself on the hunt for some new exterior lights too, hopefully you’ll find a few you love too linked up below!

With so many beautiful options to choose from, I’m feeling super torn. I really love the idea of mixing and matching a few around the house. Currently, I’m leaning towards #14 to go to the right of our front door as well as either side of our dining room doors out back, with a smaller version for the doors off of our garage and mudroom (you can find that one here). And then, I was picturing something like #13 beside our garage doors. I’m still torn about which light to go with to the left of our front door – I could keep it simple and match the one to the right, or I could also go with a smaller profile light like those on our garage (which makes sense to me since it will mainly be viewed from the side). What do you think? Would you go big and bold, or stick with a smaller profile option here? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

I like #4 the best
Thanks Pam! I love that one too! So classic!
