This sweet little felt flower Christmas Tree was so simple to make!
Hello friends!
Welcome to another #MonthlyDIYChallenge! Y’all know how much fun I have teaming up with my talented bloggy friends the first Wednesday of each month to see the different ideas we can come up with from the very same starting point!
This month we’re getting crafty with {felt} to bring you all sorts of creative inspiration for your home!
Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year! Twinkling lights. Holiday tunes. A beautiful blanket of freshly fallen snow. Cozy, crackling fires with hot cocoa in hand. Running into smiles wherever we go. And of course, all that holiday baking!
Every little thing just feels so magical. Especially with a very excited little four year old holding our hands!
One of my favourite ways to make the season feel magical for my family is to spread that holiday cheer all through the house with all sorts of cheery decor.
I’ve decked out our family room…
And, even though we’re not quite finished with it yet, I found a way to bring a bit of Christmas decor to our dining area…
Today, I’ll be sharing another space in our home all decked out for the holidays along with one of my very favourite DIY decorations.
I don’t often share photos of our front living room, simply because it’s one of my least favourite spaces in our home. It’s an awkward space that we haven’t gotten around to renovating yet and, though it has so much potential, every time I look at it, all I see is everything it’s not.
But somehow, as the holidays roll in and the all that Christmas decor gets pulled out, this awkward and ugly space grows on me just a little. Now if that’s not magical, I don’t know what is!
It may not be my favourite space, but truth is, there’s something so cozy about this old brick fireplace.
And that sweet little felt flower Christmas Tree sitting on top, well even though it’s a few years old now (find the original tutorial here), that little tree my friends is still one of my very favourite DIY holiday decorations!
I cannot wait to show you how simple it was to make!
I started with a simple cardboard cone, a couple of pieces of red scrapbook paper and a whole pile of red felt.
Using a bit of glue to secure them, I wrapped a couple of pieces of red paper around my cardboard form to create a base that would match with the felt flowers I planned to add on top of it.
With my tree base ready, it was time to start turning my pile of felt into a pile of flowers. I cut out rough circles about 5″ round, and then cut each of those into a spiral.
Finally, starting at the outside end of my spiral, I simply started rolling until I reached the other center. Then, I secured it all with a small dab of hot glue on the center point of my spiral, tacking it to the bottom of the rolled up flower to hold it all in place. If all of this is sounding a bit confusing, you can find a more detailed tutorial for these little felt flowers along with tons of photos here.
With a big old pile of felt flowers made, I began to attach each one to my tree form with a little dab of hot glue, working from the bottom up.
Once my entire cardboard tree form was completely covered with those little felt flowers, I finished it all off with a pretty little bow around the bottom.
And there it was, my lovely little felt flower Christmas tree!
I just love the pop of colour it brings to this old fireplace!
Now, don’t forget to check out the fabulous projects that my bloggy friends created for this month’s challenge too!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!
