Sharing the moody Christmas tree decorating ideas that are inspiring our own Christmas tree decor this year.
It just wouldn’t be Christmas without a Christmas tree to curl up next to, warm with glowing lights and dripping with beautiful decorations. It’s the quintessential symbol of Christmas and because of that, I think it holds more nostalgia and memories than most of our other holiday decor. Whether it’s the nostalgia of memories that flood us, and the stories that follow as we pull out our ornaments to decorate the tree for another year, or the coziness of curling up next to its shimmering glow all season long, our Christmas tree will always hold a special place in our home and heart.
For the past few years now, we’ve actually been decorating two trees in our home – one a little more polished & intentionally planned out (usually in our main living room) and one much more random & nostalgic, filled with all of our most special ornaments and completely under the guidance of the bossiest decorator of all (it’s NOT me, I promise!).
Carson’s not the only one that enjoys flexing his tree decorating muscles though – I love planning out our tree each year. While we’ve used the same collection of ornaments for several years now, it’s fun to change things up with different tree toppers, ribbons and garlands. Looking back at our Christmas trees past, it’s amazing to see how easy it is to create a whole different look with just a few small and relatively inexpensive changes. Last week, I shared some of my favourite tree toppers, skirts and ornament sets, so if you’re on the hunt to change things up a bit this year too, you’ll definitely want to check that out. You can also see some of my favourite tree garlands linked up here too.
While I’ve ran with the more traditional holiday colours the past several years, this year, I’m excited to try something a bit different. I’ve got some fun ideas to change things up this year and the best part is that I plan to make use of our old decor to do it – I think with just a few small tweaks, I’ll be able to create a whole new look. If your curious to see what I have in mind, you can catch up with my holiday decorating plans here.
This year, I’m hoping to take things in a moodier direction and our Christmas tree is sure to be at the centre of that. And so, today, I thought I’d share some of the moody Christmas trees that have been inspiring my own holiday decor this year.
