Sharing the mood board that’s guiding our neutral Christmas decor this year.
If you subscribe to our Newsletter (and if you haven’t yet, you should, I share all sorts of exclusive sneak peeks there!), you’ll already know that I’m planning to change up our Christmas decor more than ever this year. I typically decorate with holiday plaids, pulling a more traditional colour scheme of reds + greens through the holiday season (you can see last year’s tour here), but this year, I’m hoping to take things in a whole new direction.
Instead of the traditional colours and patterns that we’ve grown used to year after year around here, I’m excited to try something new this year, bringing in some moody earth tones and cozy neutral colours. While I think this may look very different than Christmases past, what I’m most excited about is seeing how I can make use of the holiday decor we already have to create a whole new look. While I’m planning to work in a few new pieces to bring in this cozy new colour palette, I am hoping to keep the new additions to a minimum, making use of simple things such as ribbon, our current stash of pillows and blankets and all of our already neutral decor pieces to create a whole new look for the season ahead. Ready to see what I’m planning?
Neutral Christmas Decor Mood Board
Many of the items above are things we already own – the cozy knit tree skirt and matching stockings, our mixed metal and mercury glass ornaments, the collection of holiday bells I’ve built up over the years and the cozy pillows and blankets I make use of all through the Fall and Winter seasons already. This year, I did choose to purchase some new garlands and stems, mainly because I hope to make use of them (particularly the stems I guess) all through the Winter ahead (Canadian friends, here is a great place to order Norfolk pine greenery). To bring in the moody neutrals, I’ve purchased several new flocked ornaments, but I plan to mix them in with the mercury glass and mixed metal ones we’ve collected and used for several years now (they really are such a classic and versatile choice for an ornament collection!). I’ve also ordered up some beautiful velvet ribbon in those same moody neutral colours that will make it so easy to bring some rich colour and texture to wreaths, garlands and even our tree. I also plan to tie little pieces to our stocking holders and light fixtures to sprinkle even more moody texture and colour around the house. Finally, I couldn’t resist ordering up some pretty new wrapping paper to tie it all together under the tree – maybe it’ll help motivate me to get our gifts all wrapped up earlier than the week before Christmas this year! 😉
Just in case anything caught your eye, I’ve got all of my fave neutral holiday decor linked up below for you.
I’d love to hear what you think about this neutral take on Christmas this year. I’m not sure if we’ll miss our usual red & green colour palette around here, but I’m so excited to try something new with our holiday decor this season. Follow along as I try out some new ideas and stretch the limits of our well established holiday decor capsule with just a few new additions. I’ve got so many new ideas for the season ahead and I’m super excited to see how it all comes together!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
