Mercury glass, a classic pearl bead garland & a whole lot of tinsel come together to create a nostalgic, vintage inspired Christmas tree with just the right amount of sparkle.
Happy weekend friends! It’s the first Saturday of a brand new month, which means that it’s time again for some cozy inspiration with our Cozy Living series. I always look forward to seeing the cozy ideas that everyone has to share each month! You can find them all linked at the bottom of this post. But first, I’m so excited to share this year’s Christmas tree with you!
The holidays are always filled with so much fun and excitement – ski trips, Christmas gatherings and a trip or two into the city for a bit of shopping, a fancy dinner and a special holiday show – there’s always so much to look forward to all season long. It may only be the beginning of December, but we’ve wasted no time soaking up every magical minute around here, baking up some of our favourite holiday treats (check out our 2021 baking list here), gathering around a special Christmas puzzle or board game (here’s our current family favourite) and working our way through all of our favourite holiday movies. We’ve already tried two new holiday baking recipes, made our way through a whole jar of hot chocolate mix (it’s always extra special drinking out of these nostalgic mugs) and bedtimes have been filled with our favourite Christmas books for weeks now (Carson LOVES reading this adorable advent calendar story each night!). But of all the holiday activities and traditions we take part in around here, decorating the Christmas tree is everyone’s favourite! It just wouldn’t be Christmas without all the stories, reminiscing and sparkles scattered all across the house that come with decorating the tree together.
While we used all of our old favourites to fill the tree with a bit of sparkle, we also decided to try something a little bit different this year – feeling inspired by one of our old Christmas movies and the explanation it prompted about tinsel when Carson noticed it covering someone’s tree, he asked if we could add some tinsel to our own tree this year. I was SO excited about the idea, I popped online that night to order some up (I found it here in case you’re looking for some too). While Brady had gotten to drape a tree in tinsel once or twice as a kiddo, I’d never tried it myself – it always looks so cozy and nostalgic when I see it in the movies though, I just had to try it on our own tree this year.
So we hung the bead garland and all of our lovely mercury glass ornaments and then we draped 3 whole packages of tinsel icicles all over the tree. Some of us were more intentional about how and where we placed it than others, but I resisted any urge to come along and “fix” anything (even after Carson went to bed). Instead, we clipped on some little candle lights and topped it all off with a the prettiest little star at the top. I really think it turned out SO beautifully, crooked star on top and all.
Lighting a holiday candle (find my favourites here) and singing along to our favourite Christmas songs while we fill the tree with beautiful ornaments always feels like a perfect kick-off to the holiday season together. Of course, we didn’t stop there though! Watch for our 2021 holiday home tour on the blog next week!

Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
