This farmhouse style ruffle burlap pillow was SO simple and inexpensive to make!
Welcome to another #MonthlyDIYChallenge my friends! Y’all know how much fun I have teaming up with my talented bloggy friends the first Wednesday of each month to see the different ideas we can come up with from the very same starting point!
This month’s challenge was sponsored by the wonderful folks behind Kenarry, giving us a chance to share all sorts of ways to craft with {burlap ribbon}. I cannot wait to see what everyone came up with!
But first, I’m been itching to share this pretty little burlap ruffle pillow with y’all for weeks now…
You won’t believe how simple it was to make!!!
Armed with my sewing machine, a few squares of fabric and a roll of burlap ribbon, I had this sweet little pillow whipped up in less than 15 minutes!
I began by measuring my pillow, then cutting two squares of fabric – 1 square was 2″ larger than my pillow measurement and one the same 2″ larger on one side, but 8″ larger on the other. Finally, I cut that larger piece in half length wise, overlapping one side by 6″ so that it made a square the same size as my smaller piece.
This created a simple envelope closure that I could tuck my pillow into (so much simpler than working with a zipper!).
I fastened my pieces together with a few pins to hold everything in place…
And ran a simple stitch about one inch from the edge, all around the outside of my pillow. Because I wanted a less polished look, I didn’t bother leaving an opening to turn it all right-side out.
With my pillowcase made, I started on my burlap ruffle. After snipping off the finished edge, I simply started tugging on one of the strings about 1/3 of the way down the ribbon, working the burlap into a ruffle as I pulled.
Then, once I had a ruffle long enough to make it all around my pillow, I simply started sewing it on, right over top of the stitching I’d already done.
Using a length of ribbon made such quick work of this part and even better, the finished edges on either side of my ruffle will ensure that my burlap stays in tact over time.
That’s it friends – SO quick, SO simple yet SO pretty!
I love the way that big, thick ruffle pops against my white bedding!
I think it brings some beautiful texture and even more farmhouse style to our master bedroom!
