There are so many ways to put these sweet DIY stamped spoons to work and you won’t believe how simple they were to make!
Hello! Welcome back to another round up of beautiful decorating ideas that you can whip up in just 10 minutes or less!
Y’all, I’m seriously SO excited about this series! I mean honestly, who doesn’t have 10 minutes to spare?
On the first Wednesday of each month, I’ve been teaming up with an amazing group of bloggers to bring you all sorts of inspiration that you’re sure to love. This month’s theme was {Summer} and I cannot wait to see what everyone came up with!
Ahhhhhh, sweet Summer…
Oh how I’ve missed you friend!
With the long, sunny days of Summer just around the corner, I had zillions of ideas for projects to share for this month’s theme…
These DIY stamped spoons have been on my must-try list for ages and I knew this would be a great chance to finally give them a try. I’m so excited to show you how simple they were to create!
Armed with a few metal spoons and an Impress Art stamping kit, I had these sweet spoons whipped up in just minutes.
I started by flattening out my spoons with a hammer – I chose to just hammer away straight onto the spoon, creating a ton of scratches and dents, which really gave that rustic touch I was going for, but if you’d like yours to look more polished, just wrap it with some smooth fabric (I’ve heard stuffing it into a sock works well).
With my spoons flat, it was time to start stamping. I marked a line with some stamp straight tape to help me keep my letters straight – if you really want things to look perfect, you could mark little ticks for each of letters to ensure even spacing between the letters, though again, I was going for something less perfect, so I didn’t bother.
Laying my spoon on the steel block, I lined up the first stamp above the tape, with the letter facing me and gave it a really good strike with the hammer. Because I was working with a harder metal (stainless steel), I found that I had to hit my stamps pretty hard for them to really make an impression in the metal, sometimes even having to strike it more than once. Turns out I should have picked up the “premium” stamp set, which is actually made for harder metals. I guess I was lucky to be aiming for imperfect because these stainless steel spoons would definitely take a bit of practice to get things looking just right.
With the words stamped, the very last step was to go over my letters with a black Sharpie, quickly wiping off any excess with a wet rag. This definitely helped to make my letters stand out a bit more.
And that’s it!
These sweet little spoons were SO quick to make – I can’t believe I waited so long to try this!
And yes, I’ve totally staged them with some faux greens I rounded up from around the house. If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ll know that we rolled in just a couple of days ago after two weeks away – between washing quite possibly every item of clothing we own and catching up with everything else I’ve neglected for the past two weeks, I just didn’t have time to run to pick up any plants, but I do plan to pop them into the real thing soon (you know, for the record).
With so many ways to put them to work, I’ll definitely be whipping up a big old stack of these!
Now I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to check out what the other gals came up with…
