A quick little update & my favourite reads from the week.
Happy Friday my friends! How was your week? Ours felt extra busy around here with Brady away for work through most of the week. Luckily he made it back just in time to celebrate Carson’s 12th birthday today! I don’t know why, but this birthday is hitting differently this year – I just can’t believe my sweet little guy is suddenly 12 years old somehow. Where did the time go?! We’ll be celebrating the big day with all of C’s favourites – sushi, angel food cake (with loads of strawberries and whipped cream of course!) and a whole day of adventure in the city with his best bud. We’ve rarely celebrated with a big party for C’s birthday, opting instead to spend a day together with a close friend or two doing something special. I love that we get to spend this time together with him and his friends – I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate him! C spends months thinking up ideas for things he’d like to do – this year we’ll be hitting up the indoor skate park (this has been on his bucket list for years now!), checking out an arcade and taking in a movie in a big, fancy theatre (a very different experience than the little small town theatre we’re used to here).
On top of all the birthday celebration prep, if you’ve caught my stories on Instagram lately, you’ll know that we’ve been shopping for some new carpet for the Pyramid Room (our bonus room over the garage). We’ve been using the space as our primary bedroom since moving in, but, if we ever make it through our second floor renovations, eventually we picture this space functioning as an extra living room space as well as an office for Brady for the days that he works from home.
I came home with some samples last week, and while all of them would have been just fine, there wasn’t a single one that I was really excited about. I spent all week trying to talk myself into the least expensive option (pictured below), but I just couldn’t shake how boring it felt in this space. While I want to be practical in my choice, the Pyramid Room is such a unique and fun space with all of it’s little alcoves and sloped ceilings everywhere – I just think a carpet with a bit of personality would fit the space so much better. Unfortunately, it seems that personality comes with a higher price tag. Because this room is off in it’s own little world upstairs and really won’t see much in terms of traffic or wear + tear, I just can’t justify spending too much on flooring in here.
I had to head back into the city for an appointment this week and so, while I was there, I decided to make a quick stop to see what other options I may be able to find for carpet – hoping I’d come across something with a bit more personality without the high price tag. And guys, I’m SO glad I did! I ended up coming home with three new options that I’m feeling so much more excited about! Here’s a quick peek at them below – which one is your favourite?
With Carson’s birthday celebrations and a company hockey tournament in the books this weekend, I’m thinking we won’t get much work done around the house, but that’s okay, I think we’re all ready for a little break anyway. Wishing you a fun-filled weekend too my friends!
