Painted Stair Railing Inspiration
Sharing all of the painted stair railings that have us thinking about painting our own.
I’ve been contemplating painting out our oak stair railing since the day we moved into this house nearly three years ago now. I love, love, love the grand, traditional feel that this big spiral staircase brings to our entryway, but I can’t say I’m a fan of the honey oak railing and trim work. While this old staircase has come SUCH a long way with just a change of flooring (definitely don’t miss a thing about that old flooring!), I just can’t shake the idea of painting out the railing to finish it all off.
I’ve thought long and hard about re-staining all that oak to tone down the orange and give it more of a historic feel, but I’m not convinced I’d love the end result. On top of the huge amount of work that would be, we’d also need to patch some of the oak veneer that is running along the side of our stairs as well and of course, stain that too. Re-staining it all honestly just feels like more work than it might be worth at this point. Painting our railing on the other hand, while not exactly easy, would be SO much less time consuming to take on and I feel like the end result would be more predictable. While I’m feeling more and more sure that painting our stair railing is the way to go, I’m much less confident about a colour. I’ve been saving up painted stair railing inspiration for months and today, I thought it might be fun to share some of our favourites with you.

As you can see, there’s a lot of beautiful reasons to paint out our railings out there. Now, I just need to decide on a colour!
