It’s been a couple of months since I’ve shared a whole house update here on the blog (you can catch up with our last update here). While I have managed to share some of my painting progress along the way (like our new black doors!), there has actually been a ton of work happening behind the scenes around here lately that I can’t wait to catch you up on! So, grab yourself a cup of coffee and let me tell you all about what we’ve been up to.
I have SO much to tell you, it’s hard to know just where to start!
Maybe we’ll kick things off with our primary ensuite. It might not look a whole lot different in this space, if anything, with the floors and ceiling all torn out, it looks even worse I’d say. But, all that empty space is progress my friends. With the layout for our bathroom all figured out, Brady’s been tearing up all of the subfloor in there so that he can start moving around the plumbing to accommodate the layout changes. Because our home is heated through radiant heat (which was secured to the subfloor), removing that subfloor was a long and tedious job. But, now that it’s out of the way, we’ve been able to take a closer look at all of the changes we were hoping to make and, lucky for us, it looks as though everything is going to work in terms of the plumbing, which is great news!
Before removing all that subfloor, Brady also took down all of the ceiling and the blown in insulation behind it, this will allow us to more easily build out the new walls and run the new electrical.
So, while it might not look like much at the moment, this my friends is progress (finally)! Next up will be reworking the plumbing and building out the new walls.

While Brady was busy demoing all the things, I was hard at work planning out all of the finishings for this new space. I think I’ve got nearly everything figured out aside from the floor tiles, lights and wall treatments – I’d love to add some sort of wall panelling around the main area (check out some of my favourite bathroom wall panelling ideas here) and maybe some wallpaper in the toilet room. So far, all I’ve ordered is this tub, but I’m hoping to get on ordering the rest soon as I know some of it will take ages to come in.
In between work days on that bathroom, Brady’s been squeezing in a few odd jobs around the house too. Not only did he finish up the install of all of our smart switches around the entire house (a total game changer for us!), but he also managed to get a few new lights installed too – two in our mudroom and another in our office. I love how they have both a modern and vintage feel all at the same time!

Speaking of swapping things out, we also changed out all of the doorknobs on our main floor – we went with these solid brass knobs in a mixture of glass, black and brass finishes. I had no idea I could love a doorknob so much!

If you’ve been following on Instagram, you’ll already know that I’ve been hard at work painting all the things lately (again). It may have taken me three tries to get the colour right, but I painted out a few of the doors on our main floor, the trim around them and swapped out the knobs for these beauties, which are even more lovely in person (you can read all about that door painting saga here if you’re curious).

While I had my paintbrush out, I decided to tackle all of the oak trim on our main floor too. I didn’t necessarily mind the oak, but with some new window treatments on the way for our kitchen and living room (we decided to go with these smart shades), I thought I should get the windows ready before they get here. Our plan is to change out all of the trim throughout the whole house as we update the floors and, although that won’t happen for a while yet here on the main floor, when we do, I’m pretty sure it will be white, so this gave me a perfect opportunity to test the colour out and see what we think. So far, I’m undecided about how I feel (surprise!), but this time I’m happy to live with it for a while at least. ๐

I’ve been having so much fun dreaming and scheming and planning out all the things. It’s a little easier around our main floor I think because most of it will be coming out with the bigger renovations down the road, which means I can have a whole lot of fun without much consequence. I’m finding that the more I do, the more I want to do though, which has pushed me to start committing to some other things around the house too. Not only did we FINALLY order up some window treatments for our main floor, but I’ve even ordered up a few of our lights too! I’ve been playing around with some lighting plans for our main floor for a couple of weeks now and, while I’ve only committed to a few of these so far, I am so excited about where things are going!

Speaking of ordering things, with the warm weather rolling in, I couldn’t resist ordering up some outdoor furniture to help us make the most of our new backyard. I cannot wait to sip my morning coffee rocking in one of these pretty chairs!
Whew, I think that’s it for this month’s update. It might not look like a lot has happened around here, but friends, I can’t tell you how BIG it feels to finally start making some decisions around here! Despite what you see on all those home makeover shows, making a home takes time and, as tempting as it is to plow through all the things to get to the other side of all of these renovations, I know that giving ourselves the time and space to make thoughtful changes around here is what’s going to help us really unlock this old Tudor’s full potential. Thankfully, I think we’re both finally starting to settle into the journey and I’m SO excited to see where it takes us!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!ย
