A Quick Little Catch Up + My Favourite Reads from the Week.
Happy Friday my friends! Who’s ready for the weekend? It’s been a pretty crazy week around here – not only have we been busy with all the usual things (house projects, piano recital and Carson’s first school dance), but we’ve been doing it with multiple forest fires blazing all around us. It’s been an unsettling week for most people living in Northern Alberta. With our phones shrilling out emergency alerts seemingly non-stop, we’ve all been following the fires as closely as possible in effort to stay ahead of things in case we are forced to evacuate on short notice. Many of the little towns around us have been evacuated this past week and, while we’ve been so lucky to avoid such a close call here so far, we’re also very aware that that can change at any moment. We’ve never seen a spring so full of wildfire around here and, with more hot days in the forecast ahead this weekend, we’re certainly not out of the woods yet. Here’s hoping we see some rain soon. In the mean time, we are just sending out all of our gratitude the many fire fighters that have been working around the clock to save all of the little communities around us.

Despite all of the uncertainty happening around us, we’ve been moving right along with with things around the house. I shared a whole house update here on the blog yesterday (hard to believe it’s been nine months since we first moved in!) and mentioned how great it feels to finally be making some decisions around here. After so many months of feeling paralyzed with indecision over every little thing, it’s actually been very comforting to finally start seeing some progress around here. It’s so funny, but I’ve found the more we do, the more we want to do – let’s hope we can keep riding that momentum for a while yet.
If you caught my Instagram stories this week, you’ll know that I was testing out some new paint colours for the trim and doors in our mudroom. You can see the two options in the photo above – if you’re curious, the lighter colour is Revere Pewter and the darker is Briarwood, both from Benjamin Moore. When I asked on Instagram which was your favourite option, the polls were ever so slightly in favour of the lighter colour, but the results were much closer than I’d expected. Once I’d painted out the samples though, I was much more confident in my choice. I’ve already started on my painting, keep an eye on my Insta stories to see which one I went with. And if you’re curious about all of the other changes we’ve made lately (there’s a whole lot of paint and shopping involved), check out the 9 month update I shared here.
