I don’t know about you, but we are SO ready to welcome in May around here! After spending the last six months surrounded by snow and cold, there’s really nothing like watching the world around us slowly come back to life. The weather has been amazing these past few weeks, making quick work of melting away all the snow and already starting to green up the lawn. While the snow has only been gone for a couple of weeks, you better believe we’re already enjoying a ton of time outside in the sunshine – running, biking, and lots of walks through the trails with Charley, trampoline time, hot dog roasts and a ton of tennis (our new favourite pass time). We couldn’t be happier to welcome in all of the outdoor fun that Summer has to offer!
While we’ve been busy enjoying all that sunshine and warm Spring weather, we’ve also managed to tackle all sorts of little projects around the house lately too. I’ve been working on putting together a little 9-month update for this new/old house of ours to share all of our progress (including the current state of our primary bedroom and ensuite), but for now, here are a few sneak peeks to tide you over.

Read on for a quick little update of where we are currently…
CURRENTLY
Reading: I’ve been devouring my latest read!
Writing: Working on a post with all the house updates to share next week.
Needing: Some weather-proof chairs to place around our outdoor fireplace. I think these classic chairs would be a great option – super comfy to curl up in next to the fire and I love the wide arm to set a drink on.
Creating: We’ve been working hard on our flower beds out front. They were filled to the brim with weeds last year with a few neglected bushes scattered here and there between them – having moved in last August, there wasn’t a whole lot I could do about that mess last summer, but we’re trying our best to get ahead of it all this summer. We’ve already emptied out all of the old bushes, next weekend I’m hoping to cover everything with some landscape fabric to block out all the weeds. Hopefully I can pick up some new bushes soon to bring those old, neglected flower beds back to life.
Loving: Running outside. The weather has been beautiful, the temperatures are rising, and all of our snow is finally gone. I’m SO happy to be able to run outside in the sunshine again!
To Do: Oooooh man, this list is growing by the minute around here. Between this list of little projects from earlier this year, my new list of ideas for our main floor, our big renovation list for 2023 and now all the outdoor projects that can only be done through our super short summers – well, let’s just say, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do around here.
Wearing: SO excited to be able to slide on my fave sandals again! I live in these things all summer long.
On my wish list: We’ve been without a BBQ for years now (our old one blew over in a storm shortly after moving back to AB in 2015 and we never did get around to replacing it). I honestly can’t believe we’ve gone this long without one, but we’re more than ready to get back into BBQing around here. Rather than going with a traditional gas grill though, this time around we’re thinking we may take the leap and get a Traeger. If you have one yourself, I’d love to hear what you think about it in the comments below!
Planning: Right now, I’m working on finalizing design plans for our ensuite bathroom. Like everything else in this house, I’ve been having a hard time committing to things, but I think I’m getting closer. I really need to decide whether I want to do dark or light tiled floors and then I think the rest will fall into place from there. Here are a couple of designs I’ve been playing around with (still need to add in the tile)…

Working for me right now:ย One step at time. Whether it’s painting out doors and window frames or picking out fixtures for the ensuite, making one decision at a time before moving onto the next is helping me slowly make my way out of this decision paralysis I’ve found myself stuck in these past several months. Progress still feels painfully slow, but at least we’ve moving ahead now!
Whatโs not:ย My ever-growing to-do list. It’s definitely time to narrow our focus and prioritize what’s most important to us right now. I’d hate for the summer to pass us by and not only have nothing to show for it in terms of progress around the house, but even more importantly, we really want to make sure we’re leaving lots of room for time with family, friends and tons of adventure along the way!
Anticipating:ย Summer and all of the fun, adventure and outdoor time it’s sure to bring our way. Spending six months of the year buried in snow has a way of making you really appreciate all of the wonderful things that Summer has to offer!
Iโd LOVE to hear where are you currently! Let me know what’s new and exciting in the comments below.
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
