Waking up early for a couple of hours of quiet all to myself is my absolute favourite way to start the day! Today I’m sharing 5 of my favourite ways to enjoy these quiet early mornings.

I find some months of the year just naturally feel cozier (I mean it’s hard to not feel cozy when you’re curled up in a warm, chunky sweater in front of the fire). But, I also feel like some times of day tend to bring more cozy vibes as well. In the Winter, our evenings always feel coziest to me as we tuck ourselves into the house from the dark and cold outside after our busy days at school + work.
But in the Summer, it’s the mornings that always feel coziest to me. Maybe it’s the slower pace of our Summer mornings – the fact that we don’t have to rush out the door for school or work and all of the things that come after it. Maybe it’s just that soft sunlight that pours through our windows as I sip my morning coffee. Or it might just be the comfort I find in a few hours of quiet, all to myself while the house is still asleep all around me.

For years now I’ve been setting my alarm for 5:30am, so I can roll out of bed and enjoy a quiet coffee (or two) all to myself before the house wakes up and our day starts moving. I know how crazy that sounds to most people, but honestly, I SO look forward to my quiet early mornings that it’s rarely ever a struggle to wander down for a coffee when that alarm goes off. Admittedly, I’ve always been a morning person, so I’m sure that’s a huge part of why I enjoy these quiet mornings to myself. But, I also find it’s the only part of the day where I’m guaranteed some quiet hours to myself to enjoy some of my favourite things. And so, for this month’s cozy living I thought I’d share a little peek at some of my favourite ways to savour these quiet early mornings…
reflecting on gratitude

I begin and end almost every day reflecting on all that I have to be grateful for. Working through this gratitude journal while I sip my morning coffee is always the first thing I do most mornings. I find it very grounding to start my day thinking about some of the many things I have to be grateful for.
Heading out for a walk or run

I start most mornings with a walk or run. I don’t always feel like venturing outdoors or moving my body first thing in the morning, but I ALWAYS feel so amazing afterwards. There’s something about starting your day soaking in that fresh air and sunshine!
exercising my green thumb

Whether it’s inside or out, tending to our plants is always such a relaxing and rewarding way to start the day.
curling up with a good book

As an avid reader, curling up with a good book is probably my very favourite way to start the day (you can find my latest read here). I mean really, you can find me reading at any given time throughout the day, but I tend to get the majority of my reading done first thing in the morning while the house is quiet and I’m not struggling to keep my eyes open.
warming the house with the smell of baking

Spending some extra time in the kitchen is always a cozy way to start the day, and is especially special for everyone else in the house. I mean who doesn’t love waking up to the smell of something baking in the oven or enjoying something sweet for breakfast!
I’d love to hear about your coziest moments of the day! Are you an early riser? Or do you find more cozy moments in the evenings maybe?

I love waking up early for a little me time too! And I simply love that you have a gratitude journal, gratitude changes everything! xo
Thanks Laurie! It’s always a great way to start the day!
I love your early morning routine! There was a time when I was getting up at 6 AM and started my day with a walk and/or run at the gym and it really set the tone for a productive day! I may need to start that routine again!!! 🙂 Linda
Yes! It can be hard to find the energy to exercise that early sometimes, but I always find it once I get going! It really does set the tone for a productive day!
Like you – I also love early mornings to myself. Love the idea of a gratitude journal. In the summer, I usually start by heading outdoors to check on all my plants and flowers. I feel like I’m their mom sometimes. Thanks for the post, Kristi!
Thanks Jennifer! Early Summer mornings in the garden are always such a peaceful way to start the day!
I wake up early to walk, then l write goals for the day. I’m a morning person also.
That sounds like a lovely morning routine Lisa!
I also love getting up early with the dogs (before the rest of my house). It’s nice having a quiet cup of coffee. I love your cozy, early morning activities.
Thanks Danielle! A quiet coffee is my favourite way to start the day!
