How I plan to continue my journey to live with intention through October.
Is been my hope this year to be more intentional about the choices I make – how I choose to spend my time and making the choice to be more present in the moments I share with my family & friends.
Living a more intentional and purposeful life is a pretty broad statement, so I’ve decided to break things down into smaller goals for each month and, to keep myself on track, I’ve also decided to share my journey here on the blog (because let’s face it, it’s often so much easier to talk yourself out of doing something, than into doing something).
For someone that thrives under the predictability of routine, it’s been so lovely to fall back into living a more scheduled life. I know, I’m making myself sound like the biggest snooze fest ever, but honestly, life is busy – falling into a bit of a routine makes it SO much easier to not only juggle it all, but make sure I have the time and energy to really enjoy it all too.
Carson is absolutely loving being back at school (even if it is for just 6 hours a week) and is enjoying all sorts of new activities like music lessons, Taekwondo and skating lessons.
Back to school for C also means back to substitute teaching for me.
I don’t have to tell you that life is feeling busier than ever, which means it’s more important than ever to focus on living my life intentionally.
Here’s a quick recap of my goals for September and how I’ve done following through…
{family}: Let’s get specific: Everyone in this house will get 7-8 hours of sleep each and every night (11-12 hours for that little man).
Sleep is such an important part of life, yet somehow it always seems to be the first thing we sacrifice to make room for everything else.
Reading this brilliant book by Arianna Huffington was a HUGE game changer. Brady and I both made a conscious effort to improve our sleep habits and really make sleep a priority last month, we were also sure to reinforce this for Carson as well.
It’s incredible what a little more sleep can do, how it can truly effect all areas of our lives. I have no doubt we’ll all continue to make sleep a priority.
{home}: Finish our outdoor renovations.
Almost my friends, almost!
We’re waiting on our new windows to arrive, which also means they’ll need to be installed. Other than that though, we’re nearly through with all the outdoor renovations we’ll be taking on in 2016 (many more planned for next year though!).
{blog}: Figure out which room we’ll be taking on and create a clear plan for the space.
Done! Okay, mostly anyway.
I’ve figured out the room, the furniture and the general design. Still left to work out: decor elements, but I’m on it.
{myself}: Eat breakfast. Have a healthy lunch. Take the time to cook meals I can be proud of through the week.
Even with our busier schedules, weekends away and hubs working out of town for a whole week, I’ve managed to make healthy, home-cooked meals for each night of the week (including left overs some nights). I know that my family is going to eat whatever it is that I take the time to make, and it really does make me feel so much better knowing we’re all filling out bodies with wholesome, home-cooked meals each night.
Unfortunately, that’s about as far as I made it with this one – I’m still downing three cups of coffee and calling it breakfast and lunch is always whatever is fastest (read: cereal with milk). Going to keep working on this one though!
For the month of October, here’s what I will be choosing to focus on to help me live with intention:
{Family}: With back to school (and work) as well as all sorts of extra-curricular activities picking up this Fall, our commitments outside the house have grown exponentially. In fact, for the first time since Carson came into our lives, we find ourselves having to skip eating dinner as a family in order to make it to C’s lessons, not just once, but twice a week. It breaks my heart, but he’s just loving Taekwondo SO much, I really think it’s important for us to work around the less than perfect scheduling. Instead, I’d really like to make up for it and continue to instil in our son the importance of spending time together as a family.
Let’s get specific: Find two activities each week that we can enjoy as a family.
{home}: The One Room Challenge is upon us and we’re just hoping we live to tell the tales of design and renovations, coming out the other side with a brand new space that works better for our family.
Let’s get specific: Stay on track to finish our One Room Challenge makeover by the November 10th deadline.
{Blog}: This has been a bit of a struggle for me lately. The thing is, I’ve got SO many ideas, SO much I’d like to do and share, but I just can’t seem to get it all organized in my head, let alone find the time to work through it all. My head has been spinning with ideas, commitments, inspiration & dreams … it’s been exciting and exhausting all at the same time.
Here’s the thing, I know I can’t go on like this. I know there’s some real potential in this little blog of mine, in the ideas I have to share with y’all. I know I need to find some way to organize all of this chaos in my head so that I can see more of it come to life.
This month I want to get it all out on paper – all these zillions of ideas floating around in my head. And of course, more importantly, I want to lay out a plan to make them happen.
Let’s get specific: Organize my ideas and set a clear path to make them happen.
{Myself}: With our schedules filling up so quickly lately, I’m sure it’s no surprise that I’ve been struggling to make time for myself. I’ve been so busy looking after everyone else, running C to school or one of his activities, cooking up those delicious home-cooked meals, and often doing it all after a long day of teaching. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed each and every minute of it (well, mostly anyway), but I’ve been so busy filling up everyone else’s cup so to speak, that I know my own is running empty.
Let’s get specific: Find an hour each day to do something just for me.
Feeling strong and ready to refocus my mind on what’s really important this month!
What are your goals this month? I’d love to hear how things are going!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!

These posts are great, Kristi… even just getting them down on paper so you can see what all lies before you! I understand cereal for lunch and a gazillion ideas floating in your head!! My goal is to get successfully through Oct. as we undergo reconstruction…. I’ll need my planner more than ever! Good luck, my friend!!
Oh Kendra, you’ve been dealt a tough hand for sure, but it’s going to be so amazing once it’s all done! xo
You can get it all done, girl! So cute that your son is in taekwondo!! And dinner is a meal I struggle with, too – I’m tired from the day and would just rather order pizza. If you got dinner down, breakfast and lunch will come, too. Can’t wait to see your ORC makeover!!
Thanks so much Sarah! You are the sweetest friend! xo
What a cute blog! Glad to find you 🙂
Thanks so much Tenneil!
These are my favorite posts! Love your transparency! I feel ya on being pulled in so many directions. One thing that I’ve wanted to do and have been doing the past two weeks is listening to a podcast or pandora and going on a 1 hour walk. I’ll go to a trail close by or just walk the neighborhood. Either way, it resets me and gives me some me time! Can’t help you with the coffee. .. I’m right there with ya!
Oh my gosh, I LOVE that idea Ashley!!! I think that sounds like such a perfect way to clear your head and reset! Thank you so, so much for sharing and for your super sweet words of encouragement friend! xo
I would love to hear more about how you organise and move forward with ideas for your blog. It’s a problem I have, too.
I use a program called Co-Shedule Kerry and it’s absolutely brilliant! You should definitely check it out – here’s my affiliate link: http://coschedule.com/r/7361.
Thanks Kristi! That looks really useful 🙂
You have absolutely inspired me to set a list of goals for next month, and to blog about it. No seriously. I need this kind of focus and accountability in my life. So glad you shared at Merry Monday!
Oh good! I’m thrilled that you’re feeling inspired Megan! It’s definitely helped me to focus on what’s most important! Thanks so much!
