Our holiday season has felt busier than ever this year. Between our busy work schedules, school events, city trips & Christmas shows with friends, visits with family, holiday parties and so much hockey well, let’s just say this holiday season has been a whirlwind for us. While we’ve had such a blast making so many happy memories with our friends & family, it hasn’t left us with as much time for things like decorating the house or baking up our favourite holiday treats (check out this year’s baking list if you missed it). Through all the busyness of the season this year, I’ve definitely found myself craving a little more simplicity than usual around the house.
This year’s holiday home tour consists mainly of greenery, ribbon and few little mini-lights thrown in for good measure (find my favourite ways to decorate with ribbon here). I simply stacked it all right on top of our year-round favourites and I love the simple, neutral and cozy feel it’s created throughout our home this year. So, grab yourself a warm coffee or tea and join me as I tour you through this year’s simple + neutral holiday home.
Simple + Neutral Holiday Home Tour
The front entry way features a simple garland draped down the stairs and tied with a bit of ribbon. A few stems tucked into a vase and a little DIY swag attached to the sconces finished things off perfectly.
I added another simple garland around the entrance to our kitchen & living room areas – it’s the perfect welcome into our home!
A little went a long way around our living room. As simple as it is, our neutral moody Christmas tree is obviously the star of the show in here. The rest of the decor consists of a few garlands layered over the fireplace mantel, some stockings hung by the chimney with care and a few candles (both real and faux) scattered around the room. Super simple, with just the right amount of festive.
Keeping in line with our simple + neutral theme, this year’s tree was definitely simpler than year’s past, but I love the way it turned out. Layering a few new moodier ornaments in with our tried & true mercury glass collection created the perfect mix of colour and texture and adding in a few ribbon bows around the tree finished things off so perfectly. You can read more about this year’s tree here.
Aside from a few wreaths, a bit of ribbon and my favourite collection of tea light houses, we didn’t add much to our kitchen this year, but it still feels as festive as ever.
The shelves around the study got a little Christmas glow-up with a few tea more tea light houses and some holiday greens. Aside from the holiday plaids on our new sofa, I think the rest of the decor in here could last all Winter long.
Outside the house, we didn’t really have much time for putting up lights this year, but we did manage to get our little front porch all decorated with some garlands and twinkling lights. And, in keeping with my ribbon decor ideas, I tied little lengths of ribbon to all of our exterior lights. So simple, but I love the little pop of colour it adds!
While we didn’t get many lights put up on the front of our home, we did get the backyard rink all decorated again this year. All of the windows throughout our kitchen and living room look out to our backyard and I just love that we get to enjoy this view of lights each and every night!
