We kept things super simple with this year’s tree, utilizing a rich, yet neutral colour palette and a ton of rich textures to create our neutral + moody Christmas tree.
We’ve been embracing a much slower + simpler take on decorating for the holidays this year and this year’s Christmas tree is no exception.
Through Christmases past, we’ve definitely had our fair share of full, shiny, even over-the-top trees (that tinsel though!). You can find most of them linked up below.

This year’s tree looks a little different. While I LOVE the sparkle of a full, over the top tree, we found ourselves craving something much simpler this year. So, instead of filling every last inch with glitz and sparkle, we took a much quieter approach to decorating our tree.
We embraced the simplicity of a more neutral colour palette this year. We started with our tried & true collection of mercury glass and mixed metal ornaments. I love how classic and versatile this collection of ornaments has proven to be for us. No matter what look our tree takes on for the season, these ornaments always fit the theme. They’ve lasted several years now and have truly stood the test of time.
On top of that very traditional base of mercury glass on the tree, we brought a few new ornaments into the mix. With their deep, rich colours and heavier textures, these new ornaments definitely brought a more modern feel to our tree and I especially loved the way the modern look of our new ornaments played with the more traditional feel of our older collections. It think it created such an interesting and beautiful contrast.
Finally, to fill it all in a just a little more I decided to tie some ribbon bows all around the tree, making sure to vary the colours and textures of the ribbon to create even more visual interest.
Though this may just be our simplest tree yet, I really think there’s been something so magical about embracing the quiet + cozy feel of this moody tree through what can feel like a very “noisy” time of year. This has definitely felt like our busiest Christmas season yet for our little family, so keeping things a little more simple throughout home has really helped us to balance out the crazy this year.
Finally, when I came across this beautiful wrapping paper, I just couldn’t resist. I think it ties everything together so perfectly.
Just in case you’re looking to recreate some of this magic on your own tree, I’ve linked up everything we used to pull together this year’s neutral + moody Christmas tree below.
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
