I honestly can’t believe I’m saying this…
We’ve got SO, SO much on the go right now, we’d have to be absolutely mad to add something else onto our plates.
Especially an entire room makeover.
Like top to bottom and everything in between.
And all in just six week’s time.
Yep, absolutely mad.
Yet, that’s exactly what I’m doing here today.
After taking part in the One Room Challenge three separate times now, you’d think I’d be somewhat of an expert by now. We’ve taken on some BIG challenges, and created some incredible spaces.
I know the dedication, organization, stamina and hard work it takes to completely make over one room in our home in just six weeks. This isn’t something you just jump into without at least something resembling a plan.
Yet, here I am. Again.
We’ve been so caught up working on my office space (which turned out amazingly might I say!). And our front porch. And replacing our windows. And decorating for Fall. Not to mention real life of course.
Here we are committing to a total room makeover and we’re only just figuring out our plans for the space.
Because making over an entire room in just six weeks isn’t enough apparently, we have to go and do it with our eyes closed, so to speak.
Do I sound a bit overwhelmed by it all? Because I am.
Seriously, what are we thinking? You can bet I’ve asked myself this more than a few times as we started talking about all of this.
But, here’s the thing I keep coming back to – this One Room Challenge is overflowing with support from so many other people just as crazy and overwhelmed as we are. It’s an incredible feeling to not only make it through this challenge alive, but to have another room in our home completely and totally finished. Not to mention, we’ve got some AHHHHHHMAZING brands we’ve partnered with to create a design so gorgeous that I have to pinch myself to make sure it’s all real.
So, before I get into all of the wonderful things we have planned for this space, let’s just take a quick peek at which room we chose to take on.
Welcome to our Family Room friends! Cozy, isn’t it?
Honestly, there’s not really much I like about this room, which makes it a great candidate for a makeover I suppose.
This is the view as you enter from our kitchen and mudroom area…
I love that it has it’s own door that we can close off from the rest of the house when we want to, although, I’m not such a fan of the glass panels in it that are constantly full of Carson’s fingerprints.
That ugly brown door on the right leads to our garage. Because it enters into our family room instead of the mudroom right next door (seriously, who planned that?!), we never, ever use it and instead, have to walk around to our front door each time we enter the house. SUPER handy, right?!
Between all the doors and that corner fireplace, we’ve definitely found this room to be really difficult and awkward to arrange furniture in.
Which is why there’s a big wall of nothing to the left.
And then again to the right.
It’s not SO bad when you just look straight ahead.
You know, if you don’t mind that it’s all so dark, there’s not an ounce of charm or personality at all in the entire space and well, that texture on the wall is pretty awful too.
And how ’bout that ceiling fan! Lovely right?
Now, I bet you’re wondering about all that painter’s tape all over the floor – she hasn’t hung a single picture, or even a set of drapes, but she’s decorated her floor with green tape? Nope, that’s our attempt at choosing furniture for the space (more on that next week).
Obviously, it’s going to take A LOT of work to make this a cozy and functional space for our family. But you know we’re always up for a challenge!
This family room makeover is going to be one crazy, wonderful, exhausting overwhelming, beautiful ride … are you ready?
