This DIY square planter box took just minutes to make and there are SO many ways put it work!
Welcome to another #MonthlyDIYChallenge my friends! Y’all know how much fun I have teaming up with my talented bloggy friends the first Wednesday of each month to see the different ideas we can come up with from the very same starting point!
This month we’re making our own {planters} and I cannot wait to see what everyone came up with!
I’ll be sharing the easiest ever DIY square planter box…
When the topic of planters came up for this month’s challenge, I knew exactly what I wanted to make.
One of my most used projects has been this scrap wood planter box…
It was SO darn simple to make and has been such a versatile piece that I’ve been meaning to make up a few smaller versions to put to work.
With a playroom, powder room + mudroom space all under construction at the moment, this month’s Monthly DIY Challenge project had to be as quick and simple as possible.
I had about 10 seconds to whip this baby up and luckily, that’s about all it took!
I started with a pile of scrap cedar we had laying around, leftover from our DIY shutters.
I knew I wanted to make a smaller square planter, so I started by trimming my bottom board to 5″ to match the width, creating a square base. With my cedar boards measuring an even 1″ thick, I cut my four side pieces to 6″ (find our favourite sliding miter saw here).
Then I simply started wrapping them around my bottom square, fastening them with the nail gun.
I our our palm sander to smooth out every inch of this, rounding out all of the corners and edges to give it a bit of a worn + weathered look.
Finally, I finished it with a bit of Danish oil to bring out the colour and wood grain.
And that’s it friends!
I think it looks so sweet with that simple faux flower mason jar arrangement poking out!
I know I’m going to find a zillion ways to put this simple DIY square planter box to work!
Now, don’t forget to check out the fabulous projects that my bloggy friends created for this month’s challenge too!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!
