How to make your own rustic DIY wood cake stand in just 5 minutes.
Life is busy these days, isn’t it?
In our quest to fill our lives with as much wonderful as possible, and of course give back as much as we can, we seem to be busier than ever.
In fact, we’re so busy running from one thing to the next, that (and maybe I’m just speaking for myself here, but) I feel like it’s just so easy to loose track of what really matters.
A few weeks ago, I shared my goal to live a more mindful life this year. To really focus my time and energy on what matters most. To soak in those everyday, seemingly insignificant moments and find joy in the simple things.
Which is why I am so, so excited to introduce a new video series that I’ll be producing in partnership with my friends at The Brick. Drawing inspiration from that old farmhouse life – the neutral colours, charming character, home-cooked meals, & time with family – I hope to inspire you to join me in slowing down to enjoy the simple things.
I can’t wait to kick things off this week with this sweet little DIY cake stand…
Friends, this literally took me less than 2 minutes to make (and then of course, a few more waiting for it to dry).
So, here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
-unfinished wood candle holder – I picked mine up at Michaels (similar here)
-unfinished round wood plaque (similar here)
-wood stain (find the one I used here)
-strong glue (here’s what I used)
You can find the full tutorial in the video below:
And, just in case you’re not wanting to go the DIY route, here are a few of my faves available online:

HUGE thanks to our friends at The Brick for sponsoring this makeover and making it so darn easy to recommend their beautiful furniture!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!

This is such a simple idea – but I have wanted one of these wooden cake stands but could never quite handle the prices! And with this idea I imagine you could vary the height of the candlestick and size of the plate – perfect!! Thanks! I’m off to Michael’s!
Yes!!! You could make all sorts of shapes and sizes Faye! Thank you so much!

? Do you seal it or are you using only for décor and not for food safe?
I used this simply for decor, but I’m sure you can use a food safe sealer if you’d like to use it for food.
Gorgeous! And easy = perfect. 😉
Thank you so much Lynn! I’m so happy you love it!

Your cake stand is adorable, but I’m obsessed with your candle holders! Please tell my they are DIY & there’s a tutorial.
Thanks so much Renee! And I absolutely LOVE these candle sticks – they’re not DIY unfortunately, but here’s a link for you just in case (affiliate): http://rstyle.me/n/cc5p56bz687.
Love this! I have to make one for sure!
Thank you SO much Carolann!
I love the simplicity but it also looks great! Question: do you know of a food- friendly stain in case I actually used it for cake or cookies!
Thanks so much Kim! There are a ton of options for food safe finishes, here’s just one article I came across when googling: http://www.finewoodworking.com/2006/08/01/food-safe-finishes, but it looks like you’d have a ton of choices that would be pretty easy to get your hands on. Hope this helps!
Beautiful. Also LOVE the wooden “M”. Is it diy?
Thank you so much! Yes, the wooden monogram was a DIY, you can find the instructions for it here: https://www.makingitinthemountains.com/how-to-make-diy-monogram-wall-decor-with-scrap-wood/.
This has two things I love: easy DIY & trays! 🙂 Going to have to add this to my list of things to do!
Awwww, well how perfect! SO happy you love it! Thank you Morgan!!!
Beautiful! What a cute Craft! And I love the color of your walls, do you know what color it is by chance?
