This night before Christmas box is such a fun tradition that our kiddo looks forward to every Christmas Eve.

Though we have a few Christmas Eve traditions that I treasure, I think if you asked Carson, he’d tell you his Night Before Christmas Box is his absolute favourite. I’ve made one for him each & every year – they were much smaller when he was a baby (mainly a book, an ornament and perhaps a pair of pj’s), but over the years I’ve added a few more things to the mix.

Sure, opening up a gift box is something exciting for Carson to look forward to after dinner on Christmas Eve. But, even more importantly, I think our Night Before Christmas Box has become a really fun way to collect some special holiday items that he can come back to year after year. Over the years we’ve grown quite the collection of Christmas books and movies to enjoy together throughout the season. Curling up on the sofa for a movie or snuggling into bed for stories each night are some of my very favourite moments with out little family.

Each year I choose an ornament that reflects something special about that year – last year it was a dog to celebrate our first Christmas with Charley, this year it’s a Hogwarts train to reflect his love of all things Harry Potter.
We usually have our big Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve each year so that we can spend our Christmas Day together without anyone being stuck in the kitchen. After dinner, we all change into our Christmas pj’s and, with a travel mug of hot chocolate in hand, we drive around town for an hour or two looking at Christmas lights. Then, we head home for a Christmas movie before bed. I think last year was the first that Carson made it through our Christmas light drive without falling asleep, so he actually joined us for the movie afterwards (though I’m pretty sure he was sleeping a few minutes in).

In case you’re curious, here’s a look at what I’ve packed into Carson’s Night Before Christmas Box this year:

This is always such a special tradition to look forward to each Christmas Eve. Even if it’s just a Christmas book and a special ornament, I hope you found some inspiration to try making your own Night Before Christmas Box this year!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
