I cannot wait to share what I came up with for my own Mom! There are few things in life my Mom likes to do more than sew (you know, aside from hanging with her awesome children and grandchild!). She’s been begging for some sort of quilt rack to display her hard work for ages now and I’ve actually been meaning to put one of these together for her for just as long. I’m SO thrilled that we (I may have had a bit of help from hubs!) have finally, FINALLY made her a beautiful ladder to display her lovely quilts!
There are a ton of great tutorials out there (see the ones I used here, here and here), so I won’t bore you with a repeat. Very basically, here’s the gist:
one: Cut 1x4s to 6′, adding a bit of an angle to the bottom so it can lean easily on the floor.
two: Cut 3/4″ dowel into five 19 1/2″ pieces. This is where I actually had to learn to use a saw. For the first time EVER. And over the phone none the less. Did I mention I really do have the best (and most patient) husband ever?!
three: Using a 3/4″ paddle bit, drill 5 holes through the 1x4s all about 1′ apart.
four: Add a bit of wood glue to each end of the dowel, push it through the holes on each 1×4, wiping off any excess. You can help it through with a mallet or hammer if you need to.
five: Stain with your favorite stain. I used my fave “reclamation” stain from Weatherwood Stains left over from our One Room Challenge. I also slapped on a bit of Country Chic Chalk Paint in “simplicity white” to add a bit more rustic charm.
Et voila! A super simple DIY that any Mom would {LOVE} to unwrap this Mother’s Day!
And what better way to showcase it than with this {gorgeous} quilt that she made for me last year! I’m SO excited to give this beautiful ladder to her … she’s going to LOVE it!
Love this project? Pin it!
