Looking Back at our 2025 Renovation Progress

Checking in with our 2025 renovation goals.

I love this time of year for so many reasons, not least of which is the idea of a whole year of possibility ahead. I always relish the opportunity to reflect back on the year that’s passed and set some goals to guide us through the year ahead. We have tons of ideas for projects we’d like to tackle around this new/old house of ours, but before I can start prioritizing and narrowing down that list, I always like to take a look back at last year’s list and all of the progress we’ve made. Sometimes, it can feel like we’re barely moving forward in our journey to bring this old house back to life (this year especially!), so it always helps to sit down and reflect on just how far we’ve come – it really helps us to recognize all of the little things that might get lost in the day-to-day shuffle and put things into perspective again.

And so, before we really dive into setting out our goals for the year ahead, let’s take a quick look back at least year’s list (keeping in mind that Brady was working 16+ hour days through 1/3 of this year and I took on a teaching job that we hadn’t planned on when we first made this list).

Our 2025 Renovation List

ONE: Finish the walk-in closet in our Primary Bedroom.

โœ”๏ธ We wrapped up work and officially moved into our new primary closet last March. I am still head-over-heels in love and, after using it every day for nearly a year now, there isn’t a single thing I’d change about it.

TWO: Replace the flooring throughout the second floor.

โœ”๏ธ It took us all year to finally get around to it, but Brady installed the last of the last piece of hardwood flooring on our second floor this week! We still have baseboards left to do, but the hardwood flooring is officially done.

THREE: Replace all of the doors and trim around the second floor.

*Almost! We’ve replaced all of the doors, hardware and all of the casings around the doors and windows all around our second floor. All we have left is to install the new baseboards now that the flooring is finally finished. Hoping this will be all finished up this month so I can start on painting it all.

FOUR: Finish Carsonโ€™s new bedroom.

โœ”๏ธ Technically this one is done. Carson was able to move into his new room on Christmas Eve – all he had was a bed at the time, but we worked hard to get his closet and custom shelves installed before the new year rolled in. While we do still have the window coverings, some decor and maybe even a custom desk yet to install, the construction of his room is officially done and he’s so, so happy with the result.

FIVE: The Pyramid Bathroom.

๐—ซ Honestly, we haven’t even thought about this one. Maybe a job for 2026?

SIX: The Red Bathroom.

๐—ซ Ditto for this bathroom too, which makes me so sad to write, because I hate this bathroom more than anything.

SEVEN: Refinish the tennis court.

๐—ซ We did look into this, but, with such a short summer season here, we honestly couldn’t justify the cost. I think we’ve landed on tearing it all out and landscaping it with some bigger trees and bushes, but we’re not ready to commit to anything yet, so this one remains unfinished for the time being.

Possession Day – August 2022

EIGHT: Paint the fence and deck.
*Halfway there at least. Carson spent a couple of weeks adding two coats of paint to our fence – it was a BIG job, but it made such a difference. Aside from replacing a few boards this summer, I think we’ve got many more years with this old fence (thank goodness!). While I think the paint made all the difference with the fence, the deck is another story entirely – it honestly just needs to be replaced, so we decided not to waste our time and money on painting it. Hopefully a project in the near future for us!

Summer 2023 (before painting the fence)

NINE: The Pyramid Room.
๐—ซ The Pyramid Room has become our workshop, saving Brady from running up and down the stairs every time he needs to cut something with a saw. Until we finish the last two bathrooms on our second floor, it’ll likely stay that way. We’re not really missing the space and it makes such a difference during projects to have a workspace right there. Once those two bathrooms are finished up, we’ll just need to get some carpet installed in here though and this space will be done too.

Wow! I have to say, progress felt slower than ever this year, but somehow, with Brady losing 1/3 of his year to work, me taking on an unexpected teaching contract and more than a month of travelling out of the country, we still managed to accomplish several of our goals! Looking back and really taking stock of all of the progress we made always helps put things into perspective. That said, we do still have a loooooong way to go around here, with more ideas than time of course, which means theyโ€™ll be another list coming our way for the year ahead. Stay tuned my friends!

Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!ย
