Happy Monday my friends!
As a student & a teacher, back to school has always been a time of year that I’ve looked forward to & with a little guy at home as eager to learn as I am to teach, I don’t think that’s likely to change anytime soon. The start of a fresh new school year brings with it SUCH an excitement about the possibilities ahead – the learning, the friendships, the discoveries & the memories – there’s nothing more exciting than embarking on a new adventure!
Just as you’ve been getting your kids ready to head back, your child’s teacher has been hard at work behind the scenes too prepping for another successful year in the classroom — setting up desks, cubbies, learning materials & lessons, bulletin boards & of course coming up with those super fun get-to-know you activities that make the first day of school SO special! All of this hard work definitely deserves a thank-you and I’ve come up with just the thing …
You are not going to believe how simple this was to make!!!
It all started when I found these Expo Neon Window Markers while shopping at Office Depot a few weeks ago – I knew instantly that I wanted to create a Dry/ Wet Erase Board that was both functional AND pretty to look at. Here’s what you’ll need to pick up to make your own:
– 8x 10 picture frame
– scrapbook paper
– Expo Dry Erase or Window Markers
– Gold Sharpie
I started by tracing the glass from the frame onto the back of my scrapbook paper.
Once I had it cut down to the right size, I wrote the word “notes” on top with a Gold Sharpie to add a little sparkle (and maybe a little so everyone knows what to do with it) and assembled my frame once again.
And what better way to show your appreciation than to write a meaningful quote on the front?!
On my quest to get everything just right, you can imagine I had to write and re-write things a few times. I was SO happy with how easily the Expo Window markers erased with just a wet cloth!
Wrapped with a bit of twine and black raffia, this baby is ready to make any teacher’s first day of school wonderful!
Did you know that almost each and every school supply and decoration you see in your child’s classroom was purchased by their teacher? Setting up for a new school year is exciting, but expensive, so there’s nothing a teacher loves to get more than something they can put to work in the classroom, especially when they didn’t have to buy it themselves! With just a picture frame and a few supplies from Office Depot, this DIY Dry/Wet Erase Board is not only inexpensive to make, but oh so useful for jotting down notes for later! Pair it with some Expo Window Markers or Dry Erase Pens and you’ve got SUCH a {perfect} back-to-school teacher gift (not to mention how easy it would be to put one to work at home too!). Even better, throw in a little gift card to Office Depot so that your child’s teacher can pick up any extra school supplies or teaching materials that might come up through those first few weeks! They’ve got some killer deals going on this week including select PaperMate Flair 4pkโs: $4, Sharpie 12CT Asst Fine & Ultra Fine Asst: $6, Sharpie Dozen Box Black Fine & Ultra Fine: $6 – while supplies last! Not to mention $5 off your purchase of $20 or more on Select Newell Rubbermaid Brands (PaperMate, Expo Neon Window Markers, Sharpie, Uni-Ball, & Mr. Sketch)!
Wishing you all a very Happy Back-to-School!!!

How cute, Kristi! This could be used for so many things. And I love how easy it is. It’s perfect for a teacher gift!
Thank you SO much Sarah! It’s definitely versatile – I’ve put one to work as a menu board in our Kitchen too!
Adorable! I really love the polka dot paper! Any teacher (including me!) would love this as a gift! ๐
Thank you Amanda!!! It would be SO perfect on a teacher’s desk or maybe hanging on the wall by the door with a quote!
Love this!!! Hope one of my future parents sees this.. Or I suppose I could just make it for myself ๐ I need to send you a pic of my classroom this year. 8 hours later my bulletin boards are works of art!! I feel you would definitely approve!
Awwww, thanks my friend! I would love to see pics – I have no doubt that you will knock the socks off those kids when they see you’re SUPER fun room!!!
This is adorable! And I love the quote you are displaying on it ๐
Thank you Nicole! I’ve always loved that quote too!

Thank you Tara! SO simple, but definitely useful!
This is super cute, Kristi! I love the polka dot paper you used. ๐ If you have time, I’d love for you to link this project up to Motivational Monday! http://thediymommy.com/motivational-monday-13-craft-diy-home-decor-link-party/
Thanks Christina!!! I’ve got my dining chairs linked up this week already, but I promise to link it up next week!!!
I made a giant calendar board like this, but I like the small you made too. It would be great to put up in areas of the house where I want to leave little notes.
Thanks Erlene! You’re totally right! I’ve put one to work in our Kitchen as a menu board too!
Was thinking of using chalk board paint on a wall in our home to use as a shopping list. But I LOVE this idea so much better….so much neater! And I just got a HUGE curb find glass framed art print so I’m planning on making a bigger version of this. (I’ll take out the weird art print first and use something that’s going to work with my design scheme.)
Cool idea! So ways to personalize, make it bigger (or smaller) to fit on a wall, etc. are endless!
Thanks ๐
P.S. As a former teacher and I’d like to think a life-long student, I too love the beginning of the year or the new semester! What fun!
Oh CeeGee! I’m SO happy you love it and that you’ve already thought of a way to make it work for you! I think making a bigger version is BRILLIANT! I’ve often thought of making a big one to hang on my wall in my craft room! Thank you!!!
That Expo Neon Window Markers really colour up everything.
They really do!
