How to create a cozy and welcoming farmhouse style Fall Porch.
Friends, I have been waiting months for this day to come!
When we started planning to makeover our front porch space, I had dreams of planting flowers and sipping lemonade dancing in my head. Unfortunately Summer has disappeared as quickly as it came and here we are, in the middle of October and finally, FINALLY getting around to finishing things up. The trees are bare and the snow has even started to fall (and fall, and fall, and fall) – I guess I’ll have to settle for pumpkins and hot cocoa instead.
If you follow along with me on Instagram, you’ll know how much we L.O.V.E. our sweet little front porch! Even with it’s cracked, chippy boards & sinking concrete steps, our little old porch has been one of our favourite places to spend time together!
Just a few short weeks ago, I chatted all about how amazing I knew this porch could be. How much charm and character it could bring to our home. How cozy and welcoming it could be.
I shared all sorts of ideas that we hoped to bring to life, creating the farmhouse porch of our dreams!
But friends, even with all that, I hadn’t ever imagined that it would become this…
{sigh}
I couldn’t possibly be more in love and I cannot wait to show y’all around!!
After ripping off the chippy old boards that made up our old front porch, we designed a brand new porch space with three separate levels (and no crumbling stairs!). In order to keep any maintenance required to a minimum, we decided to go with stamped concrete. I loved the ability to customize not only the design of everything, but the colour and pattern as well.
With the concrete in place, we decided to work through a few other quick updates as well. We found some gorgeous new lights from one of our very favourite vintage inspired lighting companies, Barn Light Electric. The rustic, industrial look of them fit so perfectly into that farmhouse style we love so much and the price point was pretty perfect too.
In fact, we loved them SO much, we even added a pair to the garage as well!
Our front door has also been a bit of a thorn in my side since moving in. It’s actually brand new – it was replaced by the previous owners shortly before we bought the house, but the plain look and faux stained glass sidelights are definitely not what I would have chosen. Unfortunately for me, my husband is far to practical a person to replace it again, so I decided to make the best of it with a little makeover instead.
I started with a couple of quick coats of paint over everything, and friends I really do mean QUICK – I put this brilliant new SnapDry paint from Sherwin-Williams to work and that baby was dry enough to close in just one hour!
I had the hardest time in the world deciding on a colour, but after humming and hawing for ages, finally ended up at Worldly Gray (SW 7043). I think the warm greige tones look absolutely perfect with our blue siding!
Of course, we couldn’t have a front door makeover without a new lock and handleset. I am head over heels in love with this gorgeous set from Schlage! Not only does it have a touchscreen lock (yes! TOUCHSCREEN!), but the matte black and vintage styling perfectly fit the farmhouse vibe I was looking for.
Friends, I have to say, I still can’t believe the difference a little paint a fancy new door handle can make!
And then, with all that hard work out of the way, it was finally time to decorate!
I decided to leave my DIY vintage window flower box right where it was because I think it helps to balance out that offset front window.
I just filled it with some faux greens and a few little pumpkins, which I have to say, looked so much better than the dead flowers that had been living in it for the last month.
I also decided to leave my chalkboard door where it was too, mostly because I couldn’t lift the darn thing no matter how hard I tried and hubs was nowhere to be found (coincidence?).
Plus, it looks pretty darn cute from the other end of the porch!
Though it would be impossible for me to choose a favourite part of this space, the thing we use most when we’re out here is most definitely this gorgeous sectional sofa from The Brick!
Now, my first thoughts when it came to furniture for this farmhouse style porch space were far more traditional – a porch swing or maybe a little bistro set. But friends, let’s be honest here – as sweet and charming as those might look, we would have been stuck in the very same boat we’ve always been – with three (or more) people to fit into the space and just not enough room for everyone to sit.
Then, I came across this amazing sectional! With it’s brown wicker look and absolutely no maintenance required, I knew the styling would fit in perfectly. Plus, I just couldn’t stop dreaming about how cozy it would be for all three of us to curl up on together! There was no way I wasn’t taking this thing home with me!
Finally, with those bigger pieces in place, it was time to start really bringing the space to life and adding all those cozy touches that warm up the space … my very favourite part of any makeover of course!
I loaded the sofa with a big furry blanket and some beautiful outdoor pillows that I found at Canadian Tire.
Then, I placed this DIY welcome sign beside it all – I think it’s such a lovely way to welcome guests to our home!
I added some GORGEOUS concrete candle holders and my DIY cotton stems (which I made in just ten minutes!) for a bit of warmth too.
I’ve always wanted some pretty topiary trees flanking my front door – I think it’s such a grand and classic look! These boxwood trees from Canadian Tire couldn’t have done the job more perfectly!
And how pretty do these rustic wood lanterns look sitting beside them?
Y’all know I love bringing in natural elements whenever I can, so I scattered a few topiary trees all around the rest of the space as well.
I couldn’t resist adding a few more of these silver lanterns to highlight the different levels we had created!
And of course, I scattered in some pumpkins wherever I could to bring even more Fall to the space!!!
The final cozy touch we added were a few strings of these vintage inspired Edison bulb lights that we just haphazardly hung across the ceiling.
I absolutely adore the way they light up our porch at night! I mean, does it get any cozier than this!
Oh friends…
I think we’ve created a pretty cozy little space to curl up in through these chilly Fall days. I really couldn’t be happier with how it all came together!!!

Awww, well thank you Shawnna! Wishing you a wonderful Sunday too!
Kristi, your new porch is so nice! I especially love the antique door with the blackboard! It just looks perfect in that spot! Maybe you could just leave it there! (That would save hubby moving it back and forth! Ha! Ha!) Just put an evergreen wreath with a plaid bow on the bottom of the door — and maybe some bells on the old door knob — for Christmas! Everything on your porch looks lovely! You have done a wonderful job of decorating — once again!
Love your “country/farmhouse” style, Kristi! It’s mine too! Have a great weekend with your family — and your reno! Looking forward to seeing what you have done!
Thank you so, so much Mary-Ann for your kind words! Those are some lovely ideas for me when the time comes to break out the Christmas decor (can’t wait)! Wishing you a wonderful weekend as well friend! Can’t wait to share our progress this week!
