Looking for some colour inspiration for your doors, windows, and trim work? Today I’m sharing some of the best colours to paint contrast trim.

It’s been a few weeks now since I painted out all of the doors and trim in our mudroom with this gorgeous warm grey colour (Briarwood from Benjamin Moore if you’re wondering) and I’m still so head-over-heels in love with the warmth and character it’s brought into this space. In fact, I love it so much, I can’t wait to paint out all of those laundry room cabinets to match (just as soon as I decide whether I want to go with brass or painted wood knobs on all of the doors).

While I was gearing up to paint out all that trim, I did a ton of research seeking out all the inspiration I could for the best colours to use for contrast trim. Because I had also imagined painting out the cabinets to match, I actually started there – gathering up all the colour inspo for these mudroom cabinets (you can find all of my favourites here). Obviously, I had to keep in mind that whatever colour I went with, all of the trim and doors would be painted out in it too and, since there are A LOT of doors in here, I wanted to make sure I didn’t go too bold with my colour choice. I knew I wanted a colour that would stand out a bit, but without being too overpowering in these smaller spaces (there are two little mudroom/laundry spaces and a hallway in this area).

While I waffled between options on my colour chips, once I painted out my top two (Revere Pewter – lighter and Briarwood – darker), I knew instantly that only that darker colour would give me the contrast I was looking for in here.
I honestly couldn’t be happier with my choice in here! That being said, I couldn’t help but share some of my other favourite colour choices for contrast trim – I’ve tried to note exact paint colours for you where possible. Hopefully, if you find yourself thinking about trying out a contrast colour on your trim (that isn’t white), you’ll find some inspiration in the photos below!
