How to perfectly style your sofa in just four simple steps!
There’s just nothing like a comfy, cozy sofa to get you through these cold months of Winter. Whether you’re curling up to read a book on a snowy day or snuggling in for a family movie night, every home should have a comfortable place to settle in.
Since finishing up our farmhouse style family room last Fall (see the entire space here), this big old couch has been that space for us.
It’s been the cozy nest that’s getting us through these snowy, blowy days of Winter.
And today, not only will I be sharing some simple ideas about styling it, but even better, I’m teaming up with some brilliant blogging friends to bring you all sorts of inspiration and ideas to help you bring beauty and comfort to your own sofa!

How to Style a Sofa in 4 Simple Steps
ONE: Start with a sofa you absolutely love. With endless possibilities out there, it’s not hard to find a sofa (or ten) to adore. Our perfect fit turned out to be this beautiful custom sofa that we designed in partnership with The Brick. I love that we were able to choose each and every part of it from the fabric and style to the perfect configuration for our space (read my tips for designing your own custom sofa here) and, nearly three months later, we still couldn’t be happier with it.
If your not head-over-heels in love with your current sofa and a brand spankin’ new one isn’t in your budget at the moment, you might consider adding a slip cover over it to change the look.
TWO: Drape a cozy throw blanket over it. Adding a beautiful throw blanket is a great way to bring in some rich texture and a pop of colour (even if that colour is a neutral!). Plus, who doesn’t love snuggling up under a blanket through these cold winter nights?!
I went with a chunky knit blanket with some fun furry pompoms that I picked up at Pottery Barn. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available online, but I did round up a few other pretty options instead:
THREE: Throw on a few toss pillows. Because what would a sofa be without some cozy cushions to sink into! Adding a few pillows of various sizes and colours is hands down the easiest way to bring some dimension and personality to your sofa.
I couldn’t resist working in some cozy fur pillows to bring some much needed warmth through these cold winter months.
I also layered in some luxurious pillows from Tonic Living – if you haven’t shopped their gorgeous pillows yet, you need to!
Finally, I threw on some sweet little pillows that really bring that farmhouse charm I love so much…

FOUR: Don’t forget about that coffee table! Whether it’s an ottoman, coffee table, side tables or all of the above, styling any furniture around your sofa is so important to creating a collected and cohesive look, while also bringing even more comfort and functionality to the space. *read more about our farmhouse style coffee table here*
A pretty tray, some lovely books, perhaps a lamp or candle – there are so many ways to expand the comfort and style of your sofa into the rest of the space.

My boyfriend rolls his eyes every time I buy more pillows but they really are a great way to decorate your couch and your bed. And pillows are easy to change out when you want to give a room a fresh new look!
