Carson’s Teen Boy Bedroom Renovation Update
Sharing a renovation update of Carson’s new teen boy bedroom.

It’s been nearly a year since I’ve shared any sort of real update on Carson’s bedroom renovation (see our last update here). Progress was just so slow in here this past year, each change felt so small with such long stretches in between, it just felt like they were never worth sharing. I wish I had though, even just once or twice, because looking back now, I can see how much progress we did manage to make, even through one of the busiest years of our lives. We may have been crawling along at a snail’s pace, but we were still moving forward.
At this time last year, not only was Carson living in his old bedroom with no end in sight, but his new bedroom space was still a workshop filled with reno materials and tools, including all of the hardwood flooring for our second floor and even our table and chop saws. It honestly resembled a garage more than a bedroom. Shortly after finishing up the new walk-in closet in our own bedroom space, we got to work in here clearing everything out and setting up a workshop space in the bonus room above our garage (it’s so much easier to have a workshop up here than having to cart every cut to our garage at the other end of the house). Brady installed new doors and trim throughout the rest of the second floor and I painted out the walls, doors and trim in C’s new bedroom space. After debating for months, I finally landed on Farrow and Ball’s Light Gray on the walls and Slipper Satin for the window bench and all of the trim – I am head-over-heels with the result.

Aside from installing his new lighting somewhere along the way, we were pretty much at a stand still through summer and fall. Luckily, we made up for it over the holidays, installing the new hardwood floors and baseboards and building out C’s new walk-in closet. We were able to move Carson into his new bedroom on Christmas Eve – there was just an area rug and a bed at that point, but he was SO excited to wake up in his new room Christmas morning!

Over the holiday break, we finished up C’s closet and the custom built-in shelves (IKEA hack tutorial coming soon!) and Carson slowly moved all of his things into his new bedroom space.

While we’re not quite done yet – there’s still a custom desk to build, window treatments to install and a few finishing touches to fill in such as artwork, hat racks and window bench cushions – this new bedroom space is already feeling like home for Carson. We’re SO thrilled with how it’s all come together!

We’ve got a ton more reno progress to share still, but I’ll save it for another day.
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
