Oh my goodness friends.
Would you believe we’ve been at this crazy main floor renovation for more than three months now?
106 days to be exact (but who’s counting?).
That’s 106 days of chaos + crazy from one end of our house to the other.
In all honesty, it’s probably one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to live through. I mean there are only so many meals you can whip up without a kitchen.
But, as things finally start coming together, it turns out it’s also been one of the most rewarding projects we’ve ever taken on.
Living in this incredible, open space we’ve created – one that functions exactly as we’d hoped it would – has already made this crazy renovation journey worth all the blood, sweat and tears we’ve shed to make it happen.
And thank goodness for that because no matter how many times we’ve gone through this process of planning out and renovating a space, somehow it’s just as overwhelming + daunting as it was the very first time.
With all the renovating we’ve taken on through the three years we’ve been in this house (you can see all of the spaces we’ve renovated here), you’d think we’d be seasoned pros by now. And I guess sometimes (on the rarest of occasions) it feels like we are. But mostly, each and every room renovation is an overwhelming process that really just feels like a big leap of faith.
Finding pretty pictures of inspiring spaces in magazines or on Pinterest is easy. But, pulling together all of pieces of that puzzle yourself, well that’s a whole other story my friends (find our plans for each space here).
Before we’ve even had a chance to swing a hammer for the first time, I’m worrying about all of the choices we’ve made for the space – the colours, the sizes, the fit + finishes and whether they will all come together to create the space I’d been picturing this whole time.
I’m second guessing myself right up until the very last finishing touches are in place and we can finally rest assured that it’s all come together just as we’d hoped it would.
So, given that we’ve still got a ways to go before we cross that finish line (which I’m still not convinced even really exists), I’m really just a big old ball of stress and worry, hoping that all this time and money we’ve been blowing through these last few months hasn’t been wasted on a space I don’t really love.
It’s A LOT of pressure.
But often times it’s the biggest risks, the most daunting projects, that bring the biggest rewards.
And finally taking on this renovation that we’ve been planning in our heads since the day we first laid eyes on this house has been one of the scariest, most difficult and most rewarding things we’ve ever done.
It’s truly changed the way we live in our home.
Even with so much renovation yet to go.
I cannot wait to share more progress with y’all soon! In the mean time, be sure to follow along on Instagram for all sorts of behind the scenes sneak peeks!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day!

Kristi, your kitchen is just going to be beautiful once you are finished! You have taken on such big projects in making your house a “home” with all your personal touches and what you have accomplished thus far, is absolutely lovely! Just enjoy the mess for now as you will soon be done and all this hard work will be behind you and you will just be able to enjoy your gorgeous home! You have taken on so much in such a short time and I really admire you for doing this! Just remember — the END is in sight!
Have a great day!
Mary-Ann, I am always so thankful for your sweet and encouraging comments. Thank you! The end IS in sight and just knowing that is pushing us through these last few projects. Doing my best to embrace the mess as we work our way there. Thanks again and have a lovely weekend!
Your home reno is coming along beautifully. Cant wait to see the finished product! (I’m sure you cant either).
Can I ask you what kind of flooring youre installing?
Thank you so, so much Joan! We couldn’t be more excited to get it all finished up! You can find all the details about the flooring (which we LOVE!) in our design plans here: https://www.makingitinthemountains.com/biggest-renovation-yet-design-plans-farmhouse-kitchen-living-room-space/. Thanks again!
It’s looking so great Kristi! Can’t wait to see it when it’s finally finished!
Thank you Emily! Looking forward to having you over to see it in person soon! xo
It’s coming together and looks amazing! xo
It looks great so far! I love the little nook for your cookbooks. It’s a nice place to store them and have them on display.
Thank you! I’ve had to keep them tucked on their side in a cupboard for far too long, so happy to have a place to properly store them now!
I think it is amazing! You have tackled a gargantuan job that I am sure feels like it has taken on a life of it’s own. You and your partner in crime are very talented.
Oh my gosh, yes! It’s totally taken over our lives (my poor hubs is tiling the backsplash as I type this), but it’ll be so worth it in the end! Thanks so much Peggy!
