Kristi @ making it in the mountains
Hello! My name is Kristi and I’m the gal behind making it in the mountains. I am a wife, a mother & a teacher.

We’ve just recently left our lovely home in the Kootenay mountains (hence the fab blog name!) to move back to our little home town in northern Alberta. Though we’ll miss the charming town, our wonderful friends and of course, being able to enjoy our favorite hobbies right in our backyard, we’re over-the-moon excited to be back {home} surrounded by forest, big skies and most important of all, living closer to our family!

Meet the loves of my life: my hubs Brady & our handsome little man, Carson!

Growing up in the same small town in Northern Alberta, Brady and I go all the way back to junior high.
Mountain Wedding
We were married in the fall of 2010 on a mountain top in Golden, BC and, rain & all, it was an absolute dream come true!

Here is the only other man to steal my heart, our son Carson.  He’s without a doubt the most handsome and happy little guy we know!  He has brought SO much love and joy to our lives!!!

In keeping with our new DIY lifestyle, we’ve pushed ourselves a bit ton outside our comfort zone to recently buy our first ever “fixer-upper” and what an adventure it’s been already! We’d absolutely LOVE for you to follow along as we work through each room to make it our own!

  1. Your pictures and story are beautiful! I love the layout and colors for your blog as well! All so nicely done! I’m gonna keep looking around! 🙂

  2. Love you blog. I subscribe to the daily updates. Also very intrigued with Canada and have plans to visit for the first time this fall!

  3. Oh my gosh – I just found your blog because I googled “How to cover acoustic popcorn ceilings” and found your amazing hardboard plank idea!!! I watched your home tour and am re-inspired about how to add some farmhouse touches to my coastal cottage home here in Huntington Beach, CA (Southern California). I’m looking forward to receiving your emails and also just followed you on Insta (I’m honestly not a creeper – hahaha)! Bye for now…

  4. Hi Kristi!! I have been following for some time now!!! Love your beautiful blog and that you are a fellow Canadian gal too!!! I have been wanting to start a blog for about a year and am finally going to take the plunge! You have inspired me!

    1. Oh Tracey, this just made my day! Wishing you all the best with this new adventure! It’s a steep learning curve, but a such a wonderful community to be a part of! Please share a link when you go live, I’d LOVE to check it out!

  5. Kristy I love your Farmhouse kitchen.. it’s just so beautiful and bright and everything I still just think it needs a pop of color I don’t know… when you’re in neutrals you always seem to have to have a pop of color somewhere… but it really is beautiful
You gave me a lot of ideas 😁..Carolyne

    1. Thank you so much Carolyne! And I agree, hoping to work in some subtle colour with the decor. So happy to hear you’re feeling inspired though! Thanks again!

I can't wait to hear your thoughts?
