Do you remember this list of quick & easy projects I’d planned to start with around this new (old) house of ours? Well, I’ve been ever so slowly working my way through. We’re nearing the six week mark since first moving in and, while things might be moving along slower than I’d like, we are definitely making some progress around here. I’m planning to do a proper check-in with it all soon, but in the mean time, I’ve been sharing updates along the way in my Weekend Reading posts each week (you can find them all here). Of course, I’ve also been trying my best to share some real-time photos through my Insta-stories too (I’m working on remembering to share more there!).
One of the projects I’ve been putting the most effort into these past few weeks has been painting. SO much painting. So far, it’s been a whole lot of white to cover up all of the green and yellow around our main floor and I’m so happy with the way it’s brightened everything up, including all of our beautiful oak trim.

While I’m planning to start with white walls throughout most of our house (I may change my mind as we make our way through renovating each room, but for now I just want a fresh, clean slate), I am thinking I’d like to try some bolder colours in a few spaces right off the snap. I mentioned over on Instagram a few weeks ago that I would love to try a darker colour in the little office space off of our living room and y’all were just as excited about the idea as I was. I ordered up a new rug for the space as a jumping off point and plan to choose a wall colour from the pattern when it arrives next week (you can see which one I ordered here).
No matter the room, I always look for one special piece to kick off my design – whether it’s a rug, pillow, tile, wallpaper (or any other thing that you feel inspired by for a space), it’s always helpful to choose a starting point that can help guide the rest of your design choices in a space. Rugs are such a simple way to add some bold colours and textures into a room and, because I’m wanting to keep things as simple as possible for this first quick & easy phase of decorating our main floor, I’m planning to kick off my design for both the office and our study with a bold patterned rug.

I’ve already ordered up the rug for the little office space off of our living room, but I’m still on the hunt for the perfect rug to kick off the design of our study. This space is really special to us (you can read more about it here), which is probably why I’ve been struggling more to commit to a rug for this space. I’ve been gathering up my favourites for weeks now and I thought it would be fun to share them with you today. I’d LOVE to hear which one you’d like to see drive the design for our cozy study.
