my favourite reads from the week
Happy Friday friends! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week! Ours was was pretty quiet actually. Probably the biggest news around here this week was the weather – we had a snow squall rip through much of the province on Wednesday. Apparently it was the first ever around here, which explains why I had to look up what it meant when I saw the weather warning pop up on my phone. It rolled in around dinner time on Wednesday and lasted through the next morning and, with wind gusts reaching nearly 130km/hr, you can imagine the damage it caused. Lucky for us, the winds just blew some of our outdoor furniture around the backyard, but there were a ton of trees blown down all around town and many of our friends and neighbours had damage to their houses and/or properties. Wind storms are definitely not something we’re used to around here, especially in the Winter – here’s hoping our first ever snow squall is also our last!
With no big projects around the house to work on this week (besides a bit of clean-up from the storm anyway), we found ourselves with some extra time to catch up on a few things instead. I also spent some time last weekend updating the blog – not only did I change up the look & layout of things, but I reworked a ton behind the scenes as well. Hopefully the new navigation and website layout will make it easier to find whatever you might be looking for. It took far longer than I’d expected, but think I managed to get everything updated correctly. If you happen to notice anything I missed through your travels around my site, I’d be so grateful if you could shoot me a message to let me know so that I can get it fixed it up again. I also updated the SHOP OUR HOME page to include all of the design details about our basement – I’d love for you to check it out!
ON THE BLOG THIS WEEK
I shared a list of all of the renovation projects we’re planning to take on this year.
And now, here’s what I’ll be catching up with this weekend…
WEEKEND READING
I’m totally on board with each and every one of these design trend predictions for 2021.
But if I had to pick a favourite new design trend for the year ahead, it would have to be this one.
And here’s one more design trend that I’m planning to bring into our own home this year. SO charming, right?!
I’ve seen a few predictions about things that are on their way out this year too, including shiplap and open concept spaces. I have to say, I’m not so sure about those just yet. In fact, here are some great tips about how to style an open concept space. And, because I’m not quite over shiplap yet either, I couldn’t resist sharing these beautiful examples of vertical shiplap throughout the home.
And, speaking of shiplap, I love the character it brings to this gorgeous girl’s bedroom. This is how to create a “princess room” that will stand the test of time.
Vintage rugs are another beautiful way to bring some colour and character to any space. Here are some great places to source some affordable options.
Fabrics are another way to bring colour and warmth to a room and I’m finding myself drawn to more colour and pattern than ever before. I’ll definitely be referring to these brilliant tips on how to mix patterns again and again.
This post about how to choose the right roller and brush for your next painting project is another article I’m sure I’ll be revisiting regularly. Who knew there was so much to learn about brushes and rollers!
I could scroll through this beautiful Insta-feed all day long! SO dreamy!

And finally, here’s what’s on my nightstand this week.
Wishing you the most lovely weekend!
