I’ve always dreamed of living in a lovely old farmhouse. The vintage charm of old millwork, rustic hardwood floors, a big front porch, crystal doorknobs, maybe even a clawfoot tub.
{sigh}
And then we came across this big old house from the 70’s.
It may be full of linoleum, oak and walls in the wrong places.
And it’s not technically on a farm.
But, it instantly felt like home.
From the first moment I laid eyes on it, I knew we could transform this big box into the farmhouse of my dreams!
So far, we’ve tackled a few rooms upstairs…
But, turning a big old house from the 70’s into a farmhouse full of vintage charm isn’t always easy.
We’ve discovered a few simple renovation projects that have completely changed the look and feel of our home…
With the walls painted and a new light fixture here and there, it’s amazing how each space has transformed!
My favourite part of any renovation is always bringing in our furniture and decor, making the space work perfectly for our family. I love working with a mix of new and old to bring in even more warmth and character to each room.
One of my very favourite ways to bring charm & character to every space in our home is to use beautiful furniture pieces in unexpected ways! So today, I thought I’d share a few ideas to inspire you to think outside the box a bit with your furniture and decor all around the house!
{in the entryway}
I think a Dresser makes for perfect storage in the entryway
Here are a few of my favourite furniture finds for the entryway:
{in the living room}
How lovely is this Trunk as a side table!
I LOVE the idea of using a dresser as a TV stand!
Especially with a few drawers removed for some extra shelf space!
And this buffet as sofa table is absolutely brilliant!
Here are a few of my favourite finds for the living room:
{in the kitchen}
How perfect would it be to use a dresser sideboard!
And how lovely is this kitchen island made with a dresser!
Or, with a gorgeous old desk!
Here are a few of my favourite finds for the kitchen:
{in the office}
Create a reading nook with a dining chair!
Or use a Table as a nice big desk!
I love the idea of using a china cabinet for extra storage!
Especially with some pretty glass doors!
A buffet table provides extra storage as well as a lovely shelf!
And using a dining chair as a desk chair keeps things simple and pretty!
Here are a few of my favourite finds for the office:
{in the bathroom}
One of my very favourite ideas is using a dresser for a vanity!
We even tried it with a buffet table in ours!
Here are a few of my favourite finds for the bathroom:
{to use outdoors}
What could be more charming than a dresser on the porch!
LOVE the idea of using achair for a plant stand!
Here are a few of my favourite finds for outdoor spaces (though some might not live outdoors all year round):
I hope you’re feeling inspired to put some of your own furniture to work in some unexpected ways!

Soo much gorgeous inspiration, Kristi! I grew up on a farm and absolutely love all the ways we can bring farmhouse charm and style right into your homes in town! Pinning!

Awwww, well thanks so much Kendra!!!

Thanks for the suggestions. I recognize some rooms but are they all of your home? Truly gorgeous! You made it seem so easy to accomplish, however, I struggle with making my rooms coordinate on a budget. It seems when a style is popular the flea market prices skyrocket. Keep the inspiration flowing…

Thank you Kimberly! Only a few of these are actually my own spaces, but the others were SO inspiring and pretty, I couldn’t help but share them. You’ll find a link to each space right under the picture, definitely pop around to check out those other gorgeous spaces too! Thanks again!

Great ideas! Thanks so much for the inspiration! I have my TV in my small den sitting on a dresser that I bought at a thrift store and that I redid. All of the drawers provide me lots of storage for my CDs, DVDs, all of my cards, etc.
Kristi says
I think that sounds like such a perfect way to hold everything Bonnie! And I bet it looks so pretty! Thanks so much!!!

I love using a dresser for more than just a “dresser”! Table for a tv, storage in the office even on the porch! (didn’t think of that one!) So many great inspiration photos and love that you linked to actual products, too!
