This simple DIY farmhouse serving tray took just minutes to whip up and really is the perfect way to carry everything both inside our outdoors!
Welcome back to week two of our Outdoor Extravaganza series hosted by my sweet friend Shauna at Satori Design for Living.
I’m SO excited to be teaming up with an amazing group of Canadian bloggers to bring you all sorts of outdoor inspiration to help you bring your outdoor spaces to life again just in time for Spring (in Canada anyway)! Over the next few Thursdays, we’ll be sharing our Plants & Flowers projects (find my succulent bird cage planter here), Outdoor Decorating & Entertaining ideas, as well as Build-it & Paint projects.
Then, on May 26th, we invite you to come back for one big OUTDOOR EXTRAVAGANZA link party, where you can share your own outdoor projects and discover something new!
Last week, we kicked things off with some {plant & flower inspiration}…
This week, we’ll be sharing our {outdoor decorating & entertaining} ideas and friends, I can’t wait to show you how quick & easy this handy DIY farmhouse tray was to put together!
This tray was made entirely out of 1×4’s, mostly because that’s what we had lying around, but feel free to switch up the board sizes however you’d like to suit your own needs. Knowing I wanted my tray to measure approximately 26″ x 20″, I began by cutting 25 1/2″ lengths to create the base of my tray, laying them out on the floor as I went until I ended up with the approximate tray size I’d been hoping for.
Then, I moved on to cutting the edges of my tray, which would ultimately be the pieces that actually hold this whole thing together. Measuring the width of my tray first (17 9/16″), I cut two end pieces and nailed them onto the ends of my base with our finishing nailer.
I then measured the length of my tray (27″) to cut a piece for either side, nailing that along the base as well.
With everything nailed together, I gave the whole thing a quick once over with my sander to smooth out any uneven joints and wiped on a quick coat of my favourite stain.
Finally, I drilled some holes and attached these lovely cabinet pulls to either end of my tray to make it easier to carry.
And that’s it friends! This handy little DIY farmhouse serving tray took me less than 30 minutes to whip up and I just know it’s going to make entertaining SO much easier, both indoors and out! Just in case, I’ve included a quick video tutorial as well:
Curling up on this comfy sectional from The Brick” target=”_blank” rel=”nofollow”>The Brick is one of my favourite things about Summer and I could not wait to put this handy tray to work serving morning coffee on the front porch…
Even on the dreariest of days, it’s still SO comfy & cozy to curl up on…
We enjoy this cozy spot every chance we get, and I know this DIY farmhouse serving tray is going to get a ton of use out here this Summer!

That little tray is going to be so handy! I have something like it on my build list, but, of course, there are other things that need tending to right now like staining the fence and deck 🙁
