Hello friends! This post has been a looooong time coming. I actually finished up this little project a few months ago, but I’m just now carving out the time to finally share it. It feels like ages ago that I mentioned my plans to change up our little entryway thanks to all of the beautiful, cozy entryways I’d been saving on Instagram. And, while I haven’t exactly worked out a plan for my own entryway just yet, I did know one thing for sure – that lovely old dresser was in desperate need of a makeover.

That black paint chipping away was not intentional, in fact, it was driving me quite mad every time I noticed another bit of black paint peeling away and a new spot of white showing through. There was no doubt in my mind that refinishing this old dresser would be the perfect way to take this entryway from the farmhouse look I’d once loved to the more traditional and classic look I’m looking to move towards in our home. Refinishing this beautiful piece to its natural wood would not only bring more vintage charm to our entryway, but wood tones always bring a cozy warmth to any space.
I started by sanding my way through all those old layers of paint and stain, first with our palm sander over the larger areas and then with this brilliant little oscillating multi-tool to get into all the nooks and crannies (it’s such a versatile tool, it’s hands down one of our favourites!).
Once I’d stripped away all those layers and made my way to that beautiful raw wood, I added on a couple of coats of stain (Early American colour) to really bring out the richness and warmth of the wood. I finished things off with three coats of polyurethane to ensure this beautiful piece would continue to look just as lovely for many years to come.

Refinishing this old dresser was such a quick and easy project, but it’s made SUCH a difference to our entryway and all of the spaces attached to it too! The richness of that beautiful wood brings so much warmth and character to this little corner now and I’m already having a ton of fun styling it.

Giving this beautiful antique dresser a more classic and traditional look has all the wheels turning in my head now with ideas to bring more of that cozy, vintage inspired feeling throughout this space. I’m hoping to pull together a mood board to share with you soon, but in the mean time, you can check out this collection of inspiring entryways to get an idea of where I’ll be heading with things.

What do you think? Do you love the warmth of this new (old) wood look? Or did you love the contrast that the black paint brought before? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!ย

I love the wood look! Lately I find I’m refinishing furniture more than painting it. Are people getting tired of painted furniture?
I think painted furniture still has a place in today’s decor, but I agree Joan, I’m really finding myself drawn to the warmth of wood furniture lately too.
