Because there’s nothing cozier this time of year than a house all lit up with lights!

Because curling up under the glow of Christmas lights is what December nights are made of my friends.

We usually start hanging our outdoor lights in the Fall (it’s much safer to climb onto the roof before it’s covered with snow and ice), though we don’t ever start turning them on at night until after Halloween has passed. Brady always hangs the string lights along our roof lines and the wreaths over all of our windows, while I look after the easier to reach parts on our porch.

It’s pretty easy to see the difference between the perfectly straight lights that Brady hung along the roof lines and my own much more haphazard lights around our window and door.
I’d say this is a pretty good reflection of the way we each work through our DIY projects. Brady’s definitely the perfectionist in our home and I’m more of a good enough sort of gal. Ha!

We always have our lights set on a timer (we use these smart plugs which sync to an app on our phones) – not only does it save us having to remember to turn them on and off each night, but I love that they’re already on when I pull up to our house at night! We also have all of our outdoor lightbulbs on a timer too using these brilliant bulbs (you can even customize the temperature and brightness of the light) and the same app.
Each year we add a few new pieces to our outdoor decor, this year we added those small twinkling lights around our door and window and some flickering faux candles in our bedroom windows upstairs. Someday I hope our home will rival the Griswold’s impressive light display!

Of course, the inside of our home is feeling just as magical and cozy all lit up with Christmas lights too!

This garland draped down our stair railing is one of my very favourite views in our home through the holidays. I just think it feels so classic and warm, especially all lit up at night. Can you spot our new little elf friend keeping an eye for Santa up there?

The warm glow and cozy holiday feel continues into our living room as well with another lit garland draped over our mantel and our beautiful new Christmas Tree (you can read more about this year’s vintage inspired tree here).
The pearl bead garland is just like the one I always had on my tree growing up and I love the way the light bounces around all of those sparkly mercury glass ornaments.
In the other corner, I’ve hung our stockings from the mantel, tucked away our fireplace tools and log holder and added a couple of cozy blankets to our DIY blanket ladder.

This cozy space has become our favourite place to snuggle in together for a Christmas movie, with a cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire.

The holiday glow carries on in our kitchen as well, with more mercury glass, flickering candles and lots of holiday greenery lit up with twinkling lights.

And down the back hallway to our mudroom and family room as well.

You can truly feel the magic of the season when the house is warm with the glow of Christmas lights.

The cozy you have created is just stunning, I love everything – it’s perfect! I’m a good enough kind of DIYer too, haha that made me giggle because Bud is the perfectionist in our house.
Ah, thank Laurie! I suppose someone has to be the perfectionist. 😉
